Lets dig right in and talk about Angels
  • What are some myths about angels?

3
Have you ever seen an Angel?
4
How about Guardian Angels?
5
Psa 347 The angel of the LORD encamps around
those who fear Him, And rescues them.
6
Mat 1810 "See that you do not despise one of
these little ones, for I say to you that their
angels in heaven continually see the face of My
Father who is in heaven.
7

    yet to be born.
  •
  • 2. we do not become angels
  • o Matt.2230, PS85, Heb.27, ICor.63 - We
will actually become "Higher than the
    Angels Judge them".
  • o The Wings Harp - Theory is wrong!!!
  •
  • 3. they are spirits that can take bodily form
  • o Heb.17, Luke126, Heb.132

8
  • 4. they are at war with the fallen angels
  • o Read Dan 1010-13 o God heaars your prayers
    immediatly, however some times the
answer appears to be delayed because of this
    battle.
  • 21 DAYS!!!!
  •
  • 5. fallen angels are at war with believers
  • o The "symbols" of belivers as soldiers are true
    - we are at war!

9
  • 6. angels are self determinant and voluntary
    agents
  • Ez.2815-17,IS.1412-15
  • Eze 2815-17 "You were blameless in your ways
From the day you were created Until
unrighteousness was found in you. (16) "By the
abundance of your trade You were internally
filled with violence, And you sinned Therefore I
have cast you as profane From the mountain of
God. And I have destroyed you, O covering cherub,
From the midst of the stones of fire. (17)
"Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty
You corrupted your wisdom by reason of your
splendor. I cast you to the ground I put you
before kings, That they may see you.

10
  • Isa 1412-15 "How you have fallen from heaven, O
star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have
been cut down to the earth, You who have weakened
the nations! (13) "But you said in your heart,
'I will ascend to heaven I will raise my throne
above the stars of God, And I will sit on the
mount of assembly In the recesses of the north.
    (14) 'I will ascend above the heights of the
clouds I will make myself like the Most High.'
    (15) "Nevertheless you will be thrust down to
Sheol, To the recesses of the pit.

11
Angels have free will
  • Angels are intelligent viable beings.
  • o They made a choice long ago to serve God or
    follow lucifer.

12
  • 7. they are intricately involved in our lives
  •
  • . They rejoice over the salvation of man Lu.
1510, "Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in
the presence of the angels of god over one sinner
    that repenteth."
  • Angels learn from man I Cor. 49 indicates that
we are examples to them in some way. That is
scary if you think about it. Just when are you
teaching them something? Are they watching when
you step into sin? I assume that they can be
watching at any time. This should move us to
    more righteous living!
  • Eph. 310 tells us that men have knowledge that
    the angels do not have.

13
  • 1Cor. 49 , I Cor. 1110 !!!!!!!
  • 1Co 49 For, I think, God has exhibited us
apostles last of all, as men condemned to death
because we have become a spectacle to the world,
both to angels and to men.
  •
  • 1Co 1110 Therefore the woman ought to have a
symbol of authority on her head, because of the
    angels.

14
  • n     It may be that angels are involved in our
lives much more than we realize.
  • But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach
any other gospel unto you than that which we have
preached unto you, let him be accursed (Gal.
    18).
  • Paul warns, Let no man beguile you of your
reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of
    angels... (Col. 218).

15
  • A. Angels are REAL Over 300 direct references to
    angels in the Bible.
  • B. Angels were created by God in the dateless
    past (Col. 116).
  • C. Angels are ministering spirits (Heb. 17), and
invisible (2 Kings 613-17). However, they can
take human form (Heb. 132 Lot had no idea that
the two men who met him at the gate of Sodom
were angels. He washed their feet, and fed them.)
  • D. Angels are powerful (Ps. 10320)
  • E. Angels are innumerable (Heb. 1222)
  • F. Angels are masculine. There is not one female
    angel in the whole Bible.
  • G. Angels are inferior to God, but superior to
man. However, in the kingdom, man will judge
    angels (1 Cor. 62-3).

16
  • 1Co 62-3 Or do you not know that the saints
will judge the world? If the world is judged by
you, are you not competent to constitute the
smallest law courts? (3) Do you not know that
we will judge angels? How much more matters of
    this life?

17
  • A. Angels are primarily messengers. In our
text, angels are also watchers of human
    affairs.
  • B. The Hebrew word angel has a root meaning
to dispatch as a deputy with a message. The
Greek word means to bring tidings a messenger,
    envoy, one who is sent.

18
  • Angels execute judgment upon the wicked. This is
how angels are portrayed most often in the
Scriptures On Sodom On Israel (because of
Davids sin) On Sennacheribs armies On Herod
(in Acts 12) Upon the inhabitants of the earth
    during the tribulation.

19
  • They were active in the creation of heaven and
    earth (Job. 384-7).
  • 2. Cherubims guarded the tree of life at the
conclusion of the our time in the garden of eden
    (Gen. 324).
  • 3. Angelic beings left their habitation to
co-habitate with men at the conclusion of
Conscience (Gen. 6). Jude clarifies this
  • 4. Abraham was guided by an angel when he left Er
for the land of Canaan at the commencement of the
    dispensation of Promise (Gen. 246-7).

20
  • Angels attended the giving of the Law (Gal.
319). Gal 319 Why the Law then? It was added
because of transgressions, having been ordained
through angels by the agency of a mediator, until
the seed would come to whom the promise had been
    made.

21
  • . Angels announced the birth of the Christ (Luke
    2) Luk 29-11 And an angel of the Lord suddenly
stood before them, and the glory of the Lord
shone around them and they were terribly
frightened. (10) But the angel said to them,
"Do not be afraid for behold, I bring you good
news of great joy which will be for all the
people (11) for today in the city of David
there has been born for you a Savior, who is
    Christ the Lord.

22
  • Angels announced the resurrection of Christ (Mt.
    281-6) Mat 282-6 And behold, a severe
earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord
descended from heaven and came and rolled away
the stone and sat upon it. (3) And his
appearance was like lightning, and his clothing
as white as snow. (4) The guards shook for fear
of him and became like dead men. (5) The angel
said to the women, "Do not be afraid for I know
that you are looking for Jesus who has been
crucified. (6) "He is not here, for He has
risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where
    He was lying.

23
  • Angels will be present at the Rapture and
extremely active during the Tribulation period.
There are 76 references to angels in Revelation!
  • Mat 2431 "And He will send forth His angels
with A GREAT TRUMPET and THEY WILL GATHER
TOGETHER His elect from the four winds, from one
end of the sky to the other.

24
  • The FALL of Angels Some angels are called evil
angels (Ps. 7849). The Bible calls them
devils. Where did these evil angels come from?

25
  • Satan was originally Lucifer, the anointed
cherub. He fell and became the devil when he
was lifted up in pride and sought to exalt his
throne above the throne of God That is, he
desired to be worshipped like God. Satan still
desires worshippers. One of his temptations posed
to Christ was for Jesus to worship him (Mt. 49).
During the tribulation period, almost the whole
world will worship him And they worshipped the
dragon which gave power unto the beast and they
worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto
the beast? who is able to make war with him?
...And all that dwell upon the earth shall
worship him, whose names are not written in the
book of life of the Lamb... (Rev. 134, 8).

26
1Th 218 For we wanted to come to you--I, Paul,
more than once--and yet Satan hindered us.
27
  • All angels were originally created holy. God
cannot create something that is sinful. Some
angels chose not to obey God and sinned. Peter
refers to the angels that sinned (2 Pet. 24).
Jude mentions the angels which kept not their
first estate, but left their own habitation...
    (Jude 6).
  • C. Jesus referred to hell as everlasting fire,
prepared for the devil and his angels (Mt.
2541). Evidently, Satans angels are the angels
which chose to follow Lucifer in his quest for
the worship that belonged to God.

28
  • n     The Fallen Angels. 2 Corinthians 1113-14
warns us of false apostles, deceitful workers,
transforming themselves into the apostles of
Christ. And no marvel for Satan himself is
transformed into an angel of light (2 Cor.
1114). Most of what is being portrayed on
television, movies and books regarding angels is
not biblical and very dangerous perhaps deadly.

29
  • Mt. 1243-44 "When the unclean spirit is gone
out of a man, he walketh through dry places,
seeking rest, and findeth none." There seems to
be something undesirable in their existence.
  •
  • Mk. 57-12 vs. 7 "I adjure thee by God, that
thou torment me not." This was in the context of
    being cast out.
  •
  • Lu. 831 "And they besought him that he would
not command them to go out into the deep." This
would indicate that they had the possibility of
being cast into the pit with the rest.

30
  • Paul writes
  • "Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to
serve those who will inherit salvation?" Hebrews
    1v14.
  •
  • Angels test believers!!!
  •
  • "Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so
doing some people have entertained angels without
    knowing it." Hebrews 13v2

31
  • n     Angels have __positions, __jobs___,
    ___classes_____, and ______councils________ or
    governing ___hierarchies__________.
  • n     Daniel gives us a look at a heavenly
council that observes the affairs of man and
    makes judgments and issues decrees!

32
  • Read PS.895-7
  • o Compare to Dan.417
  • o "Council" is a word indicating a group with
    the ability to make decisions
    decree judgements (w/gods approval)
  • o I wonder if we are ever brought up before the
    council of Angels?
  • o Paul new something of Angels that we bypass
    1Tim.521
  • o Paul thought it important to include Angels in
    this appeal to Timothy

33

  • Dan 1013 "But the prince of the kingdom of
Persia was withstanding me for twenty-one days
then behold, Michael, one of the chief princes,
came to help me, for I had been left there with
    the kings of Persia.

  • THE EVIL ANGEL ( PRINCE OF PERSIA ) WAS AS STRONG
AS THE ANGEL FROM GOD! IT STOPED HIM FOR 21 DAYS,
AND IT TOOK MICHEAL TO HELP HIM GET AWAY!
  •
  • WHAT IS THE ' PRINCE OF SADDLEBACK VALLEY' LIKE?

37
  • The Angels had seen enough of pride, and they
cried out for a verdict against Nebuchadnezzars
    pride.
  • Ez. 118, Zech 410, Is. 626
  • We are being watched!
  •
  • Angels fight spiritual battles for us and on our
    behalf
  •
  • Daniel 1013

38
  • God created angels Heaven already existed it
was Gods dwelling place for the eternal past.
  • Praise Him, all His angels Praise Him, all His
hostsLet them praise the name of the Lord, For
He commanded and they were created. (Psalm
    1482,5)
  • For by God's beloved Son all things were
created, both in the heavens and on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or
dominions or rulers or authorities all things
have been created through Him and for Him.
    (Colossians 116)

39
  • The morning stars sang together and all the sons
of God shouted for joy. (Job 387)
  • Morning stars and sons of God are terms for
angels. This indicates that the angels were
praising God as they witnessed His creation of
the world therefore, we know the angels existed
in that condition before time in eternity
    past.

40
How many exist?
  • (Dan 710) "A river of fire was flowing And
coming out from before Him Thousands upon
thousands were attending Him, And myriads upon
myriads were standing before Him The court sat,
    And the books were opened.
  •
  •
  • What is ten thousand times ten thousand? That
equals 100 million angels. Now add the thousands
upon thousands for the sum of the many angels
that John saw a minimum of 100 million
    thousands more!

41
  • This inestimable number of angels is clarified in
    the Book of Hebrews
  • But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city
of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to
    innumerable angels. (Hebrews 1222)
  • Do you know what innumerable angels means? Very
simply, there are just too many angels for us to
count. Possibly, there are billions and billions
    of angels.

42
  • Angels have jobs, positions, councils, and
functions. They have free will. For eternity
past God had a whole different dimension in
heaven filled with billions of beings!

43
Angels
  • Types and Ministry

44
Angelology
(1) The mention of angels is inclusive in
Scripture. These celestial beings are referred to
196 times, 103 times in the Old Testament and 93
times in the New Testament. (2) Further, these
many references are scattered throughout the
Bible being found in at least 34 books from the
very earliest books (whether Job or Genesis) to
the last book of the Bible (Revelation). (3)
Finally, there are numerous references to angels
by the Lord Yeshua, who is declared to be the
Creator of all things, which includes the angelic
beings. Paul wrote, For by Him all things were
created, both in the heavens and on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or
dominions or rulers or authorities (a reference
to angels)all things have been created by Him
and for Him.
45
Angels
Angelic Beings Though other words are used for
these spiritual beings, the primary word used in
the Bible is angel. Three other terms undoubtedly
referring to angels are seraphim (Isa. 62),
cherubim (Ezek. 101-3), and ministering spirits,
which is perhaps more of a description than a
name (Heb. 113). The Hebrew word for angel is
malach, and the Greek word is angelos. Both
words mean messenger and describe one who
executes the purpose and will of the one whom
they serve. The context must determine if a human
messenger is in view, or one of the celestial
beings called angels, or if it is being used of
the second Person of the Trinity as will be
discussed below. The holy angels are messengers
of God, serving Him and doing His bidding. The
fallen angels serve Satan, the god of this world.
(2 Cor. 44).
46
Heavenly Hosts
Host is the Hebrew tsaba, army, armies,
hosts. It is a military term and carries the
idea of warfare. Angels are referred to as the
host, which calls our attention to two ideas.
First, it is used to describe Gods angels as the
armies of heaven who serve in the army of God
engaged in spiritual warfare (Ps. 896, 8 1 Sam.
111 1745). Second, it calls our attention to
angels as a multitude of heavenly beings who
surround and serve God as seen in the phrase
Lord of hosts (Isa. 314). In addition, tsaba
sometimes includes the host of heavenly bodies,
the stars of the universe.
47
Sons of God
Sons of God Angels are called sons of God in
the sense that they were brought into existence
by the creation of God (Job 16 387). Though
they are never spoken of as created in the image
of God, they may also be called sons of God
because they possess personality like God. This
term is also used in Genesis 62 which tells us
the sons of God took wives from among the
daughters of men. The use of sons of God in
Job, refers to fallen angels who mated with the
daughters of men to produce an extremely wicked
and powerful progeny that led to the extreme
wickedness of Noahs day. Most who hold to this
latter view find further support in 2 Peter
24-6 and Jude 6-7
48
Sons of God
Jude 6-7 And the angels who did not keep their
proper domain, but left their own abode, He has
reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for
the judgment of the great day 7 as Sodom and
Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar
manner to these, having given themselves over to
sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh,
are set forth as an example, suffering the
vengeance of eternal fire.
49
Holy Ones
The unfallen angels are also spoken of as holy
ones (Ps. 895, 7). The reason is twofold.
First, being the creation of a holy God, they
were created perfect without any flaw or sin.
Second, they are called holy because of their
purpose. They were set apart by God and for God
as His servants and as attendants to His holiness
(cf. Isa. 6).
50
The Angel of the Lord
The Angel of the Lord is used in the Old
Testament. A careful study of the many passages
using this term suggests that this is no ordinary
angel, but a Theophany, or better, a
Christophany, a preincarnate appearance of the
Messiah. The angel is identified as God, speaks
as God, and claims to exercise the prerogatives
of God. Still, in some passages He distinguishes
Himself from YHVH (Gen. 167-14 2117-18
2211-18 3111-13, Ex. 32 Judg. 21-4 523
611-22 133-22 2 Sam. 2416 Zech. 112 31
128). That the Angel of the Lord is a
Christophany is suggested by the fact a clear
reference to the Angel of the Lord ceases after
the incarnation.

  • 22 And he informed me, and talked with me, and
said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee
    skill and understanding.

64
The Purpose of Angels
  • New Testament

65
  • Angels are everlasting but not eternal Lu.
2036 mentions that the angels never die which
indicates their everlasting nature. The fact
that they were created, shows that they were not
in eternity past, thus not eternal. It is good
that the Lord defeated the Devil or he would
continue as he is for eternity future.

66
  • Angels are spirit beings Heb. 113,14 tells us
that they are ministering "spirits," yet they do
seem to appear as humans at times. That is a
point to contemplate some time. Just how do they
minister, just how do they function as spirit
beings in a physical world. We will touch upon
    some of these things later.

67
  • Angels are powerful II Thes. 17 Christ will
appear with "mighty angels". The term translated
mighty is the term from which we gain the term
dynamite. They are shown in Daniel as warring
with others, which also demonstrates their might.
II Pet. 211 tells that some have "power and
might". See also Ps. 10320 which speaks of
    their strength.

68
  • Angels are wise II Sam. 1420, "...and my lord
is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of
    God...."

69
ACTS 10
  • Cornelius
  • In ninth hour of the day an angel of God came
    unto him
  • The angel told him to send men to Joppa, and call
for one Simon, whose surname is Peter
  • He, Peter, shall tell you what you need to do.

70
Acts 27
  • When Paul was on a ship in a storm
  • Angel appeared to him
  • The angel told him of future events

71
Acts 5
  • When the Apostles were taken by the high priest
  • The angel of the Lord by night opened the prison
    doors, and brought them forth,
  • Those who took them prisoner found them
standing in the temple, and teaching the people.

72
Acts 12
  • When Peter was taken prisoner
  • the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light
shined in the prison and he smote Peter on the
side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up
quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

73
Acts 12
  • The angel led Peter out to safety
  • Herod ended up dying from Blasphemy
  • Judgment coming at the hand of the angel

74
Acts 8

The Angel of the Lord
Joshua 513 13 And it came to pass, when Joshua
was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and
looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with
His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to
Him and said to Him, Are You for us or for our
adversaries? 14 So He said, No, but as
Commander of the army of the Lord I have now
come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth
and worshiped, and said to Him, What does my
Lord say to His servant? 15 Then the Commander
of the Lords army said to Joshua, Take your
sandal off your foot, for the place where you
stand is holy. And Joshua did so.

Their Existence
Though the exact time of their creation is never
stated, we know they were created before the
creation of the world. From the book of Job we
are told that they were present when the earth
was created (Job 384-7) so their creation was
prior to the creation of the earth as described
in Genesis one. Where were you(Job) when I laid
the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you
have understanding. 5 Who determined its
measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched
the line upon it? 6 To what were its foundations
fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, 7 When
the morning stars sang together, And all the
sons of God shouted for joy?
90
Agent of their Creation
Scripture specifically states that the Messianic
Person, as the one who created all things, is the
creator of angels (cf. John 11-3 with Col.
116). The Deity of Messiah John 11 In the
beginning was the Word, and the Word was with
God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the
beginning with God. The Preincarnate Work of the
Messiah 3 All things were made through Him, and
without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In
Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the
darkness did not comprehend it.
91
Agent of their Creation
Scripture specifically states that the Messianic
Person, as the one who created all things, is the
creator of angels Col. 116 16 For by Him all
things were created that are in heaven and that
are on earth, visible and invisible, whether
thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.
All things were created through Him and for Him.
17 And He is before all things, and in Him all
things consist.
92
Man, a little lower
3When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy
fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast
ordained 4What is man, that thou art mindful of
him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
5For thou hast made him a little lower than the
angels, and hast crowned him with glory and
honour. 6Thou madest him to have dominion over
the works of thy hands thou hast put all things
under his feet 7All sheep and oxen, yea, and the
beasts of the field 8The fowl of the air, and
the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth
through the paths of the seas. 9O LORD our Lord,
how excellent is thy name in all the earth!
Angels, however, have limitations compared to
man, particularly in future relationships. Angels
are not created in the image of God, therefore,
they do not share mans glorious destiny of
redemption in Christ. At the consummation of the
age, redeemed man will be exalted above angels (1
Cor. 63). 3 Do you not know that we shall judge
angels?
93
Man, a little lower
By creation man is lower than the angels (Heb.
27-9). Angels are higher in intelligence,
power, and movement, yet angels serve men as
ministering spirits (Heb. 114) sent forth to
serve the saints regardless of their high
position and power. As mentioned, men are warned
to never worship angels for they are only
creatures.
94
Women Angels? Maybe
Vision of the Woman in a Basket 5 Then the angel
who talked with me came out and said to me, Lift
your eyes now, and see what this is that goes
forth. 6 So I asked, What is it? And he said,
It is a basket that is going forth. He also
said, This is their resemblance throughout the
earth 7 Here is a lead disc lifted up, and this
is a woman sitting inside the basket 8 then he
said, This is Wickedness! And he thrust her
down into the basket, and threw the lead cover
over its mouth. 9 Then I raised my eyes and
looked, and there were two women, coming with the
wind in their wings for they had wings like the
wings of a stork, and they lifted up the basket
between earth and heaven. 10 So I said to the
angel who talked with me, Where are they
carrying the basket? 11 And he said to me, To
build a house for it in the land of Shinar when
it is ready, the basket will be set there on its
base.
95
Organized Dominion
The Sons Creation includes all things in
heaven and on earth, visible and invisible. These
indicate the entire universe, both material and
immaterial. A highly organized hierarchy of
angelic beings is referred to with the word
thrones (qronoi), powers (kuriothtes),
rulers (arcai), and authorities (exousiai).
These are class roles of Angelic Beings, not
just earthly governmental offices.
96
Organized Dominion
1. Rulers or principalities. These words, used
seven times by Paul, indicate an order of angels
both good and evil involved in governing the
universe (Rom. 838 Eph. 121 310 612 Col.
116 210, 15). 2. Authorities or powers. This
likely emphasizes the superhuman authority of
angels and demons exercised in relation to the
affairs of the world (Eph. 121 22 310 612
Col. 116 210, 15 1 Peter 322). 3. Powers.
This word underscores the fact that angels and
demons have greater power than humans (2 Peter
211). See Ephesians 121 and 1 Peter 322. 4.
Place of rule. In one place demons are designated
as world rulers of this darkness (Eph. 612). 5.
Thrones or dominions. This designation emphasizes
the dignity and authority of angelic rulers in
Gods use of them in His government (Eph. 121
Col. 116 2 Peter 210 Jude 8).
97
Organized Dominion
Angels who are governmental rulers. Ephesians
612 refers to ranking of fallen angels rulers
are those who are first or high in rank powers
are those invested with authority world-forces
of this darkness expresses the power or
authority which they exercise over the world
spiritual forces of wickedness describes the
wicked spirits, expressing their character and
nature. Daniel 1013 refers to the prince of
the kingdom of Persia opposing Michael. This was
not the king of Persia but rather a fallen angel
under Satans control he was a demon of high
rank, assigned by the chief of demons, Satan, to
Persia as his special area of activity (cf. Rev.
127).
98
Organized Dominion
Angels who are highest ranking. Michael is called
the archangel in Jude 9 and the great prince in
Daniel 121. Michael is the only angel designated
archangel, and may possibly be the only one of
this rank. The mission of the archangel is
protector of Israel. (He is called Michael your
prince in Dan. 1021.) There were chief princes
(Dan. 1013), of whom Michael was one, as the
highest ranking angels of God. Ruling angels
(Eph. 310) are also mentioned, but no further
details are given.

100
Michael
(Dan. 1013 121 Jude 9). The name Michael
means who is like God? and identifies the only
one classified as an archangel in Scripture.
Michael is the defender of Israel who will wage
war on behalf of Israel against Satan and his
hordes in the Tribulation (Rev. 1279). Michael
also disputed with Satan about the body of Moses,
but Michael refrained from judgment, leaving that
to God (Jude 9).
101
Gabriel
(Dan. 921 Luke 126). His name means man of
God or God is strong. Gabriel seems to be
Gods special messenger of His kingdom program in
each of the four times he appears in the Bible
record He reveals and interprets Gods purpose
and program concerning Messiah and His kingdom to
the prophets and people of Israel. In a highly
significant passage, Gabriel explained the events
of the seventy weeks for Israel (Dan. 92127).
In Luke 12627 Gabriel told Mary that the One
born to her would be great and rule on the throne
of David. In Daniel 81516 Gabriel explained to
Daniel the succeeding kingdoms of Medo-Persia and
Greece as well as the untimely death of Alexander
the Great. Gabriel also announced the birth of
John the Baptist to Zacharias (Luke 11120).
102
Helel
Son of the Morning! Helel translated in the Latin
as Lucifer (Isa. 1412) means shining one or
star of the morning. This was the Latin name
for the planet Venus, the brightest object in the
sky. He may have been the wisest and most
beautiful of all Gods created beings who was
originally placed in a position of authority over
the cherubim surrounding the throne of God.
103
Kerubim
Cherubim are of the highest order or class,
created with indescribable powers and beauty
Their main purpose and activity might be
summarized in this way they are proclaimers and
protectors of Gods glorious presence, His
sovereignty, and His holiness. They stood guard
at the gate of the Garden of Eden, preventing
sinful man from entering (Gen. 324) were the
golden figures covering the mercy seat above the
ark in the Holy of Holies (Exod. 251722) and
attended the glory of God in Ezekiels vision
(Ezek. 1). Cherubim had an extraordinary
appearance with four facesthat of a man, lion,
ox, and eagle. They had four wings and feet like
a calf, gleaming like burnished bronze. In
Ezekiel 1 they attended the glory of God
preparatory for judgment.
104
Seraphim
Seraphim, meaning burning ones, are pictured
surrounding the throne of God in Isaiah 62. They
are described as each having six wings. In their
threefold proclamation, holy, holy, holy
(Isaiah 63), it means to recognize God as
extremely, perfectly holy. Therefore, they praise
and proclaim the perfect holiness of God. The
seraphim also express the holiness of God in that
they proclaim that man must be cleansed of sins
moral defilement before he can stand before God
and serve Him. They have six wings with two he
covered his face, with two he covered his feet,
and with two he flew.

Wheels that transported the Throne of
God Ezekiel 1010 As for their appearance, all
four wheels looked alikeas it were, a wheel in
the middle of a wheel. 11 When they went, they
went toward any of their four directions they
did not turn aside when they went, but followed
in the direction the head was facing. They did
not turn aside when they went. 12 And their whole
body, with their back, their hands, their wings,
and the wheels that the four had, were full of
eyes all around. 13 As for the wheels, they were
called in my hearing, Wheel.

Jewish Angels
1) Uriel "God is Light" , set over the Heavens
and over Sheol 2) Raphael,God Heals set over
the spirits of men 3) Raguel, "the terrifier",
who chastises the world of the heavens 4)
Michael,Who is like God? over the people of
Israel 5) Sariel, "God turneth",set over the
spirits who seduce people to sin 6) Gabriel,
set over paradise, the seraphim, and the
cherubim 7) Jerahmeel "God is merciful", whom
God set over the resurrection. Four Angels of
the Throne. On the other hand, Michael, Gabriel,
Uriel, and Fanuel (Penuel) are introduced as "the
four angels of the face of the Lord."
107
The Merkavah
Ezekiel 11 1 Now it came to pass in the
thirtieth year, in the fourth month, on the fifth
day of the month, as I was among the captives by
the River Chebar, that the heavens were opened
and I saw visions of God. 2 On the fifth day of
the month, which was in the fifth year of King
Jehoiachins captivity, 3 the word of the Lord
came expressly to Ezekiel the priest, the son of
Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the River
Chebar and the hand of the Lord was upon him
there.
108
The Merkavah
Ezekiel 14 4 Then I looked, and behold, a
whirlwind was coming out of the north, a great
cloud with raging fire engulfing itself and
brightness was all around it and radiating out of
its midst like the color of amber, out of the
midst of the fire. 5 Also from within it came the
likeness of four living creatures. And this was
their appearance they had the likeness of a man.
6 Each one had four faces, and each one had four
wings. 7 Their legs were straight, and the soles
of their feet were like the soles of calves
feet. They sparkled like the color of burnished
bronze. 8 The hands of a man were under their
wings on their four sides and each of the four
had faces and wings. 9 Their wings touched one
another. The creatures did not turn when they
went, but each one went straight forward.
109
The Merkavah
Ezekiel 11 10 As for the likeness of their
faces, each had the face of a man each of the
four had the face of a lion on the right side,
each of the four had the face of an ox on the
left side, and each of the four had the face of
an eagle. 11 Thus were their faces. Their wings
stretched upward two wings of each one touched
one another, and two covered their bodies. 12 And
each one went straight forward they went
wherever the spirit wanted to go, and they did
not turn when they went. 13 As for the likeness
of the living creatures, their appearance was
like burning coals of fire, like the appearance
of torches going back and forth among the living
creatures. The fire was bright, and out of the
fire went lightning. 14 And the living creatures
ran back and forth, in appearance like a flash of
lightning.
110
The Merkavah
Ezekiel 15 15 Now as I looked at the living
creatures, behold, a wheel was on the earth
beside each living creature with its four faces.
16 The appearance of the wheels and their
workings was like the color of beryl, and all
four had the same likeness. The appearance of
their workings was, as it were, a wheel in the
middle of a wheel. 17 When they moved, they went
toward any one of four directions they did not
turn aside when they went. 18 As for their rims,
they were so high they were awesome and their
rims were full of eyes, all around the four of
them. 19 When the living creatures went, the
wheels went beside them and when the living
creatures were lifted up from the earth, the
wheels were lifted up. 20 Wherever the spirit
wanted to go, they went, because there the spirit
went and the wheels were lifted together with
them, for the spirit of the living creatures was
in the wheels. 21 When those went, these went
when those stood, these stood and when those
were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were
lifted up together with them, for the spirit of
the living creatures was in the wheels.
111
The Merkavah
Ezekiel 11 22 The likeness of the firmament
above the heads of the living creatures was like
the color of an awesome crystal, stretched out
over their heads. 23 And under the firmament
their wings spread out straight, one toward
another. Each one had two which covered one side,
and each one had two which covered the other side
of the body. 24 When they went, I heard the noise
of their wings, like the noise of many waters,
like the voice of the Almighty, a tumult like the
noise of an army and when they stood still, they
let down their wings. 25 A voice came from above
the firmament that was over their heads whenever
they stood, they let down their wings.
112
The Merkavah
Ezekiel 126 26 And above the firmament over
their heads was the likeness of a throne, in
appearance like a sapphire stone on the likeness
of the throne was a likeness with the appearance
of a man high above it. 27 Also from the
appearance of His waist and upward I saw, as it
were, the color of amber with the appearance of
fire all around within it and from the
appearance of His waist and downward I saw, as it
were, the appearance of fire with brightness all
around. 28 Like the appearance of a rainbow in a
cloud on a rainy day, so was the appearance of
the brightness all around it. This was the
appearance of the likeness of the glory of the
Lord.
113
The Merkavah
Ezekiel 126 26 And above the firmament over
their heads was the likeness of a throne, in
appearance like a sapphire stone on the likeness
of the throne was a likeness with the appearance

The Throne -wheels
The Glory Departs from the Temple Ezekiel 10 And
I looked, and there in the firmament that was
above the head of the cherubim, there appeared
something like a sapphire stone, having the
appearance of the likeness of a throne. 2 Then He
spoke to the man clothed with linen, and said,
Go in among the wheels, under the cherub, fill
your hands with coals of fire from among the
cherubim, and scatter them over the city. And he
went in as I watched. 3 Now the cherubim were
standing on the south side of the temple when the
man went in, and the cloud filled the inner
court. 4 Then the glory of the Lord went up from
the cherub, and paused over the threshold of the
temple and the house was filled with the cloud,
and the court was full of the brightness of the
Lords glory. 5 And the sound of the wings of the
cherubim was heard even in the outer court, like
the voice of Almighty God when He speaks.
118
The Glory Departs from the Temple
Ezekiel 10 6 Then it happened, when He commanded
the man clothed in linen, saying, Take fire from
among the wheels, from among the cherubim, that
he went in and stood beside the wheels. 7 And the
cherub stretched out his hand from among the
cherubim to the fire that was among the cherubim,
and took some of it and put it into the hands of
the man clothed with linen, who took it and went
out. 8 The cherubim appeared to have the form of
a mans hand under their wings. 9 And when I
looked, there were four wheels by the cherubim,
one wheel by one cherub and another wheel by each
other cherub the wheels appeared to have the
color of a beryl stone. 10 As for their
appearance, all four looked alikeas it were, a
wheel in the middle of a wheel. 11 When they
went, they went toward any of their four
directions they did not turn aside when they
went, but followed in the direction the head was
facing. They did not turn aside when they went.
12 And their whole body, with their back, their
hands, their wings, and the wheels that the four
had, were full of eyes all around.
119
The Throne
13 As for the wheels, they were called in my
hearing, Wheel. 14 Each one had four faces the
first face was the face of a cherub, the second
face the face of a man, the third the face of a
lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle. 15 And
the cherubim were lifted up. This was the living
creature I saw by the River Chebar. 16 When the
cherubim went, the wheels went beside them and
when the cherubim lifted their wings to mount up
from the earth, the same wheels also did not turn
from beside them. 17 When the cherubim stood
still, the wheels stood still, and when one was
lifted up, the other lifted itself up, for the
spirit of the living creature was in them. 18
Then the glory of the Lord departed from the
threshold of the temple and stood over the
cherubim. 19 And the cherubim lifted their wings
and mounted up from the earth in my sight. When
they went out, the wheels were beside them and
they stood at the door of the east gate of the
Lords house, and the glory of the God of Israel
was above them.
120
The Throne
20 This is the living creature I saw under the
God of Israel by the River Chebar, and I knew
they were cherubim. 21 Each one had four faces
and each one four wings, and the likeness of the
hands of a man was under their wings. 22 And the
likeness of their faces was the same as the faces
which I had seen by the River Chebar, their
appearance and their persons. They each went
straight forward.
