  • Philip II was the most powerful Capetian who
    ruled from 1180 A.D. to 1223 A.D. His goal was to
    weaken the power of English kings in France.

  • Clovis was the first Frank to convert to
    Christianity and a primary founder of Frankish
    power.

  • Charles Martel was also known as The Hammer. He
    stopped the Islamic invasion in Europe.

The Bubonic Plague
  • The Bubonic Plague struck in parts of Asia,
    North Africa, and Europe. One third of the
    population of Europe died from it. The plague
    began in Asia and was believed to be caused by
    rats and fleas that were infested with a
    bacillus.

The Hundred Years War
  • The Hundred Years War went on from 1337 A.D. to
    1453 A.D. and was launched by Edward III. The
    French eventually drove the English out of France
    entirely.

Gothic Architecture
  • The Europeans came upon a new idea of
    architecture known as Gothic Architecture that
    came about all of Medieval Europe. They believed
    that their cathedrals thrust upward as if
    reaching towards Heaven.

The Commercial Revolution
  • The Commercial revolution was the expansion
    of trading and business. Cloth was the most
    common trade item. No longer was everything made
    on self-sufficient manor. The trade and banking
    used then, is still used today.
