EPIDEMIC is a non-profit foundation that
supports international artists who develop the
association of art and science as well as the
association of performing arts and new media.
Fundraising, searching for co-producers and
venues, developing networks of artists and
organizers worldwide have enabled Epidemic to
support for several years, among other artists,
the works of Robert LEPAGE and Édouard LOCK in
Canada, of DUMB TYPE, Shiro TAKATANI and Saburo
TESHIGAWARA in Japan, of GRANULAR SYNTHESIS, Kurt
HENTSCHLÄGER and Ulf LANGHEINRICH in Austria, of
Jean Michel BRUYÈRE in France and of Jeffrey SHAW
in Australia. EPIDEMIC and its director,
Richard CASTELLI, are often invited to
conferences, seminars and expertise or as curator
on the relationship between performing arts and
new media.

Richard CASTELLI was the Head of Programming for
two national Performing Arts Centres (Le Manège
Scène Nationale Maubeuge from 1990 to 2007 and la
Maison des Arts de Créteil / Paris from 1993 to
2007) where have been co-produced, among others,
projects by Robert LEPAGE, Peter STEIN, Robert
WILSON and where he has more specifically
developed the EXIT and VIA festivals as well as
new media exhibitions, inviting artists such as
Gregory BARSAMIAN, Motoshi CHIKAMORI, Luc
COURCHESNE, DU Zhenjun, DUMB TYPE, Masaki
FUJIHATA, Ulrike GABRIEL, GRANULAR SYNTHESIS,
Seiko MIKAMI, Christian MÖLLER, Gordon MONAHAN,
Michael SAUP, Jeffrey SHAW, Chiharu SHIOTA,
Pierrick SORIN, STUDIO AZZURRO, TIMES UP, Mary
ZIEGLER From 1999 to 2007, he was the Senior
Curator of Lille 2004 Cultural Capital of Europe,
which after 2004 became lille3000. Besides his
occupation as Senior Curator, he was the curator
of several major exhibitions Cinémas du Futur,
Robots !, Microfolies, Du Côté de Chez (Peter
GREENAWAY, Chiharu SHIOTA, Erwin REDL), and
initiated the programme of Jaquemarts urban
installations and of the Féeries urbaines (Arches
of MÉZIÈRES, Reversed Forest and Bamboo
Invasion). Being the founder and director of
EPIDEMIC, Richard Castelli is also the curator of
several major international exhibitions that have
been held in Berlin (Vom Funken zum Pixel at
Martin-Gropius-Bau in 2007, and others before),
and in Shanghai (From Flash to Pixel and Body
Media particularly) as well as every year in Rome
in the context of Romaeuropa.

He is also the producer of several artists (in

HENTSCHLÄGER, Ulf LANGHEINRICH, Robert LEPAGE,

TESHIGAWARA (KARAS) whose performances are also
co-produced in some cases. He has also produced
and co-produced several interactive films by Jean
Michel BRUYÈRE, Ulf LANGHEINRICH, Sarah
KENDERDINE and Jeffrey SHAW (refer to the list
above). In 1994, he published a research study
on the artistic activities development strategies
of Yokohamas new business district, which was
presented in a conference in this city. He took
part in other seminars at La Sorbonne and the
universities of Saint-Denis and Créteil as well
as in Montreal, New York City, Praha, Reykjavik,
Toronto He has directed several short and
feature films brodcasted on many international
channels (Best Musical film Award - Rio de
Janeiro Film Festival, Estavar Festival Award).
