Homework Assignments
  • Homework will be assigned on a daily basis
  • Please check your childs Agenda Book every night
for homework assignments, quizzes, tests, or
    other class events.
  • Homework is essential because
  • It encourages the students to view their notes
for answers, which is in fact studying
  • It helps students prepare for the next day in
class. Lessons in science build upon the
    previous days information.
  • It is an easy way for a student to get 20 points
of his or her grade in science.

6
Science Quizzes
  • One quiz per unit (about every 2 weeks)
  • The format will include a variety of
  • 1. Vocabulary Terms
  • 2. Matching
  • 3. Labeling Diagrams
  • 4. Fill in the blank
  • 5. Short Answer
  • 6. Extended Response
  • Quizzes will be announced on most occasions

7
Science Tests
  • Tests will be given at the end of every unit
  • Tests will be given once or twice per month
(depending on the length of the unit)
  • The format will include a variety of
  • 1. Vocabulary Terms
  • 2. Matching
  • 3. Multiple Choice
  • 4. Short Answer
  • 5. Labeling Diagrams
  • 6. Extended Response
  • Tests will always be announced in advance

8
Science Labs
  • Science Labs are a fun way to learn about the
curriculum while using the Scientific Method
  • Labs must be made up during extra help
  • If labs are late
  • 1. 1 day late 5 points of lab grade deducted
  • 2. 2 days late 10 points of lab grade
    deducted
  • 3. More than 2 days late Final grade of 30
  • The conclusion questions must be written in
complete sentences (with 7 or more words per
    sentence).
  • Two sentences should be used when students are
asked to explain an answer in science.
  • Students should use their notes AND what was
discussed during the lab to answer the lab
    questions

9
Final Exam
  • In sixth grade there will be a final exam in
    science
  • The final exam will count as TWO test grades for
    the fourth marking period
  • At the end of each unit students will be asked to
clear out their notes and homework assignments.
  • It is very important that the students
  • Save these sheets in a folder at home. Find a
place where they will not get thrown away.
  • Locate these sheets at the end of the year when
    we review.
  • We will spend one day reviewing each topic at the
end of the year. The students will have 10
packets to study for the final exam.

Absences
  • The students should check with a homework buddy
to find out the assignments that were missed
  • This missed work should be written into their
    Agenda Books
  • I will occasionally post the Power Point notes on
    my website
  • Missed work should be made up at home or during
    extra help
  • Lab work must be made up during extra help
  • As a general rule, missed work should be turned
in 1 day after the student returns (but are
    handled on an individual basis)

How to Prepare for Science
  • Students should
  • Review notes and vocabulary terms daily
  • Pay attention in class
  • Take detailed notes during labs
  • Ask questions (especially if they dont
    understand)
  • Attend extra help (and bring questions with you)
  • Study with a classmate (or group of friends)
  • Not be reading the notes. They should study
    them!
  • How? Index cards are a great way to study
science terms and definitions. Put a word on one
side, and the definition on the other.
