Seven Baptisms
5
there are seven baptisms in the Biblethree
are wet (or ritual) baptisms and four are dry (or
real) baptisms.
6
Dry Baptisms
7
(1) baptism into Moses (1 Cor. 102),(2)
baptism with fire (Matt. 31112 Luke
31617),(3) baptism with the cross (Mark
1038 Luke 1250),(4) baptism with the Holy
Spirit (Matt. 311 John 133 Acts 15 1116 1
Cor. 1213).
8
these are all real baptisms they are not
ritual baptisms
9
baptism into MosesFor I do not want you to be
unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all
under the cloud, and all passed through the sea
and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and
in the sea (1 Corinthians 1012).No quiero que
Corintios 1012).
10
(2) baptism with fireAs for me, I baptize you
with water for repentance, but He who is coming
after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to
remove His sandals He will baptize you with the
Holy Spirit and fire. And His winnowing fork is
in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His
threshing floor and He will gather His wheat
into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with
11
(3) baptism with the crossBut Jesus said to
them, You do not know what you are asking for.
Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to
be baptized with the baptism with which I am
baptized? And they said to Him, We are able.
And Jesus said to them, The cup that I drink you
shall drink and you shall be baptized with the
baptism with which I am baptized (Mark
(Marcos 103839).
12
(4) baptism with the Holy Spirit As for me, I
baptize you with water for repentance, but He who
is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am
not fit to remove His sandals He will baptize
you with the Holy Spirit and fire (Matthew
13
And John bore witness saying, I have beheld the
Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He
remained upon Him. And I did not recognize Him,
but He who sent me to baptize in water said to
me, He upon whom you see the Spirit descending
and remaining upon Him, this is the one who
baptizes in the Holy Spirit(John
13233).
14
And gathering them together, He commanded them
not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the
Father had promised, Which, He said, you heard
of from Me for John baptized with water, but you
shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many
days from now (Acts 145).Una vez, mientras
15
And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell
upon them, just as He did upon us at the
beginning. And I remembered the word of the Lord,
how He used to say, John baptized with water,
but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
If God therefore gave to them the same gift as He
gave to us also after believing in the Lord Jesus
Christ, who was I that I could stand in Gods
way? (Acts 111517)Cuando comencé a
hablarles, el Espíritu Santo descendió sobre
ellos tal como al principio descendió sobre
nosotros.
(Hechos
111517)
16
For even as the body is one and yet has many
members, and all the members of the body, though
they are many, are one body, so also is Christ.
For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one
body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or
free, and we were all made to drink of one
Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many
muchos (1 Corintios 121214).
17
definitionthe baptism with the Spirit enters
all Church Age believers into union with Christ
and joins them to the body of Christ(1 Cor.
1213).
18
the baptism with the Spirit unites all Church
Age believers with each other and with Jesus into
one bodythe body of Christ by one Spirit we
were all baptized into one body (1 Corinthians
1213) Todos fuimos bautizados por un solo
Espíritu para constituir un solo cuerpo (1
Corintios 1213)
19
more space is devoted to Spirit baptism than to
any other baptism

Wet Baptisms
21
(1) John's baptism (Matt. 3511 Mark 148
Luke 3317 John 12534 Acts 15 1116
1917),(2) baptism of Jesus (Matt. 31317
Mark 1911 Luke 32122),(3) believers'
(Christian) baptism (Acts 83639 104748).
22
these are all ritual baptisms
23
believers' baptism is commanded by Jesus Christ
(Matt. 2819).
24
believers' baptism commemorates Spirit baptism
(Acts 1047 cf. 1116). water baptism is a
ritual and a memorial Spirit baptism is the
reality.
25
both sacraments, communion and baptism, are
memorial ceremonies.
26
there is only one real baptism in the Church
Age (Eph. 44-5).
27
the mode of believers baptism is immersion
(not pouring or sprinkling).
28
the mode of baptism should fit the
realitythe Holy Spirit does the work of
cleansing (water) and uniting us with the death
(submerge), burial (immersed), and resurrection
(emerge) of Christ(Rom. 6311).
29
water baptism reveals the mechanics of Spirit
baptismcleansing from sin and being united
with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus
Christ
30
The symbolism of Christian baptism is (1) water
pictures the cleansing ministry of the Holy
Spirit (2) submersion pictures union with Christ
in his death (being plunged and held under water
long enough results in drowning and death) (3)
immersion pictures union with Christ in his
burial (drowning results in a watery tomb) and
(4) emersion pictures union with Christ in his
resurrection (rising from the water results in
life). Water baptism, then, is a picture of how
the Holy Spirit baptizes us into the body of
Christ. It pictures what takes place at the
moment of salvation through Spirit baptism. We
are united to the body of Christ (1 Cor. 1213)
by being united with Christ in his death, burial,
and resurrection (Rom. 6311). Now, being
cleansed from sin and new creatures in Christ (2
Cor. 517), we are ready to walk in newness of
life (Rom. 64).
31
water baptism represents the work of the Holy
Spirit cleansing and uniting believers to the
body of Christ(Rom. 63 1 Cor. 1213). the
adjective symphutos means 'grown together' or
'united,' as wounds or broken bones grow together
to unite (Romans 65).
32
water baptism is a visible symbol of Spirit
baptism(Acts 104748). water baptism is a
picture of positional truthof being in Christ
33
whereas circumcision is the sign of the Old
Covenant (Acts 78 Rom 411)believers' baptism
is the sign of the New Covenant(cf. Col.
21112).
