Seven Baptisms

there are seven baptisms in the Biblethree
are wet (or ritual) baptisms and four are dry (or
real) baptisms.

Dry Baptisms

(1) baptism into Moses (1 Cor. 102),(2)
baptism with fire (Matt. 31112 Luke
31617),(3) baptism with the cross (Mark
1038 Luke 1250),(4) baptism with the Holy

these are all real baptisms they are not
ritual baptisms

baptism into MosesFor I do not want you to be
unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all
under the cloud, and all passed through the sea
and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and
in the sea (1 Corinthians 1012).No quiero que
desconozcan, hermanos, que nuestros antepasados
estuvieron todos bajo la nube y que todos

(2) baptism with fireAs for me, I baptize you
with water for repentance, but He who is coming
after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to
remove His sandals He will baptize you with the
Holy Spirit and fire. And His winnowing fork is
in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His
threshing floor and He will gather His wheat
into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with
unquenchable fire (Matthew 31112).Yo los
bautizo a ustedes con agua para que se
arrepientan. Pero el que viene después de mí es
más poderoso que yo, y ni siquiera merezco
llevarle las sandalias. Él los bautizará con el
Espíitu Santo y con fuego. Tiene el rastrillo en
la mano y limpiará su era, recogiendo el trigo en
su granero la paja, en cambio, la quemará con
fuego que nunca se apagará (Mateo 31112).

(3) baptism with the crossBut Jesus said to
them, You do not know what you are asking for.
Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to
be baptized with the baptism with which I am
baptized? And they said to Him, We are able.
And Jesus said to them, The cup that I drink you
shall drink and you shall be baptized with the
baptism with which I am baptized (Mark
103839).No saben lo que están pidiendo les
replicó Jesús. Pueden acaso beber el trago
amargo de la copa que yo bebo, o pasar por la
prueba del bautismo con el que voy a ser probado?

(4) baptism with the Holy Spirit As for me, I
baptize you with water for repentance, but He who

And John bore witness saying, I have beheld the
Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He
remained upon Him. And I did not recognize Him,
but He who sent me to baptize in water said to
me, He upon whom you see the Spirit descending
and remaining upon Him, this is the one who
baptizes in the Holy Spirit(John

And gathering them together, He commanded them
not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the
Father had promised, Which, He said, you heard
of from Me for John baptized with water, but you
shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many

For even as the body is one and yet has many
members, and all the members of the body, though
they are many, are one body, so also is Christ.
For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one
body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or
free, and we were all made to drink of one
Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many

The symbolism of Christian baptism is (1) water
pictures the cleansing ministry of the Holy
Spirit (2) submersion pictures union with Christ
in his death (being plunged and held under water
long enough results in drowning and death) (3)
immersion pictures union with Christ in his
burial (drowning results in a watery tomb) and
(4) emersion pictures union with Christ in his
resurrection (rising from the water results in
life). Water baptism, then, is a picture of how
the Holy Spirit baptizes us into the body of
Christ. It pictures what takes place at the
moment of salvation through Spirit baptism. We
are united to the body of Christ (1 Cor. 1213)
by being united with Christ in his death, burial,
and resurrection (Rom. 6311). Now, being
cleansed from sin and new creatures in Christ (2
Cor. 517), we are ready to walk in newness of
life (Rom. 64).

Spirit cleansing and uniting believers to the
body of Christ(Rom. 63 1 Cor. 1213). the
adjective symphutos means 'grown together' or
'united,' as wounds or broken bones grow together
to unite (Romans 65).
