Wind and Sun
Wind blur is your enemy.Luckily on most days even
when there is a breeze, there will be a slight
pause when it is calm.
This tulip was photographed when it was very
breezy.
3
Closeups vs. Context
The way you compose depends on your goal. If it
is to identify plants you need to be more
documentary. If impressionistic there are no
rules.
If identifying the flower it helps if you get
the leaves in the photo as well.
4
Playing the Angles
Photographing straight down is the normal angle.
Getting down at eye level, or even shooting up is
an unique view.
Photographing straight down often works well,
especially with flower/weeds that grow close to
the ground.
5
Backgrounds
Backgrounds can make or break a photo. Busy
backgrounds can make the photo you are taking get
lost.
The background behind the tree and tulips is
light and does not take away from the color of
the tree and tulips.
6
Depth of Field
Depth of Field in close-ups can be quite shallow
so it usually does not cause a problem. If the
background is our of focus amd soft, a sharp
flower will stand out against it.
The flowers stand out because of the depth of
field.
