Introduction to CloningPt. 1
  • Cloning is a relatively simple process,
involving 2 cells. The first cell, an
unfertilized egg, has its nucleus removed and
becomes an enucleated cell. Then, a nucleus in
cell 2, which has already undergone mitosis, is
removed and placed in the enucleated cell. This
cell will develop into an exact copy of cell 2,
the one that donated the nucleus.

4
Introduction to Cloning
  • Here we have Sheep 1 and Sheep 2. We are going
    to clone Sheep 1.

5
Introduction to Cloning
  • First, we will take an unfertilized egg cell
from Sheep 2 and remove the nucleus.

6
Introduction to Cloning
  • Then, we remove a cell from Sheep 1 that has
    already undergone mitosis.

7
Introduction to Cloning
  • The nucleus is taken from the cell that was taken
from Sheep 1, and is transferred into the
enucleated cell. The created cell is the egg
cell from Sheep 2, containing the nucleus of the
    cell taken from Sheep 1.

8
Introduction to Cloning
  • The created egg cell is then put back into
Sheep 2, who will give birth to it.
  • The Sheep will be a clone of Sheep 1.

Misconceptions Regarding Cloning
  • Many people believe that the cloning creates a
copy of the organism cloned that is exactly like
the organism that was cloned in every way.
  • Actually, all cloning does is create a separate
organism with exactly the same genetic make up as
the organism that donated the transplanted
    nucleus.
  • The cloned organisms personality and way of
thinking would be shaped by how they were brought
up and what they experienced. The clone mostly
likely would not act anything like the organism
they were cloned from, if brought up in a
    different environment.

10
Misconceptions Regarding Cloning
  • Cloned humans are humans. Many people believe
that clones arent human beings, but instead
empty shells. They believe that clones should
be treated like pets or like science experiments.
In reality, a clone is in every way just like a
regular person. Except they were cloned, instead
    of conceived via sexual intercourse.
