18Are you are Digital Native or a Digital
Immigrant ?
- Our students have changed radically. Todays
students are no longer the people our educational
system was designed to teach. Quote by Marc
Prensky -
- Those of us who were not born into the digital
world but have, at some later point in our lives,
become fascinated by and adopted many or most
aspects of the new technology are Digital
Immigrants. - Quote by Marc Prensky
- Digital Natives. Our students today are all
"native speakers" of the digital language of
computers, video games and the Internet. - Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants-- A New Way
To Look At Ourselves and Our Kids by Marc Prensky

23Digital Story Telling-what is it?
- Digital Storytelling and Digital stories derive
their power by weaving images, music, narrative
and voice together, thereby giving deep dimension
and vivid color to characters, situations,
experiences, and insights. - - Leslie Rule, Digital Storytelling Association
24The Center for Digital Storytelling has defined 7
elements for creating effective and interesting
multimedia stories (www.storycenter.org)
25Digital Storytelling 7 elements for creating
effective stories A Point (of ViewNot just a
recitation of facts. Direct the point of the
story to your audience.A Dramatic
QuestionCapture the audiences attention at the
beginning and hold it throughout the
story.Emotional ContentAchieved through the
images, effects, music and tone of voice. The
Gift of Your VoiceTone of voice is very powerful
in a story. Make sure to practice your
script. The Power of The SoundtrackMusic and
sound effects can set the right mood of the
story, but can also be a distraction.EconomyNot
every picture and sound effect you find about
your story needs to be in the final cut.Pacing
Keep the story moving. Use music tempo, speech
rate, image duration and panning and zooming to
help establish pace.

535 Frames Project
- Tell a Story in 5 Frames has two important parts.
The first part is creating and telling a story
through visual means with only a title to help
guide the interpretation. The second part is the
response of the group to the visual story. The
group response can take many forms such as, a
poetic or prose rendering of the visualization, a
critique on the structure of the story, comments
on the photograph, or other constructive forms of
response. Telling and enjoying stories should
create entertainment for the group as well as
offer insight into the universal elements that
help create a story for an international
audience. The more people who respond, as either
storytellers or respondents, the greater the
reward for all. - Sample of projects here 5 Frame
