12? A Vision Realized
- The NATO Codification System is the foundation of
an international standard for creating standard
descriptions - The eOTD is an open standard for encoding Master
Data through the life cycle of a product from
design through disposal
13Motivation for ISO 80002008
- Supplier and Manufacturers recognize that
- data integration is one of the keys to a long
term relationship - the ability to provide their customers with
quality data is a significant differentiating
factor. - Suppliers and Manufacturers are
- publishing the specifications of their products,
capabilities and services on their web sites. - looking to increase their visibility and
understand that the best way to do this is to
improve the quality of their data.
Suppliers and manufacturers are looking for a
Standard that they can use to identify the
quality of their data.

- Syntax
- Each data set shall contain a reference to the
syntax to which the data set complies....The
reference shall be resolvable to the
specification of the syntax through a mechanism
that is publicly available. - Semantic encoding
- Each data element value shall reference all
concepts necessary to unambiguously define its
meaning. Each reference shall be to a concept
dictionary entry contained in a concept
dictionary that supports an interface for
resolution of a concept identifier. - Conformance to requirements
- Each data set shall contain a reference to the
data requirements statement to which the data set
complies. The reference shall be a globally
unambiguous identifier that was used to encode
the data set. The reference shall be resolvable
to the data requirements statement. The data
requirements statement shall be publicly
available. - Syntax and semantic resolution shall be
available at no charge unless the data carries a
fee based encoding warning label. -

- Application provider
- The examination reviews the ability of the
application to - (a) access the eOTD using web services,
- (b) import and export Identification Guides in
eOTD-i-xml, - (c) import and export master data in eOTD-r-xml,
- (d) generate queries in eOTD-q-xml (if
appropriate). - The certificate and registration is valid
indefinitely but only applies to a specific
version and release of the software application.

supply technical data in electronic format on any
of the items covered in this contract as follows
- The data shall comply with applicable ISO
22745-30 compliant Identification Guides. - The data shall be encoded using concept
identifiers from the ECCMA Open Technical
Dictionary (eOTD), an ISO 22745 compliant open

24Buyer letter
- Good morning
- As we move towards the implementation of our
global SAP system we want to ensure that the data
in our supplier and material master is compliant
with the new international standard for master
data quality, ISO 8000-110. The principles of
this new standard are straightforward and
compliance consists of adopting best practices in
metadata labeling and formatting. We will be
using the ECCMA Open Technical Dictionary (eOTD)
as our metadata dictionary and we will be
defining and publishing our data requirements on
the ECCMA website in XML using the eOTD-i-xml
format. - Over the next few weeks we will be contacting you
to verify the accuracy of the data that we
currently have and asking you to provide data
that we are missing in order to correctly
describe the items you supply. By assisting us in
improving the quality of the descriptions of the
items you supply you will be insuring that all
members of our organization can easily find your
items in our material master and that we can
order them from you in and efficient manner. - As a first step I would be grateful if you could
provide me with an email address you wish us to
use to send you requests for data. We will be
sending you the query both as a spreadsheet as
well as in the eOTD-q-xml format. While we are
happy to receive a completed spreadsheet in
return, we also support the eOTD-r-xml format. - The two eOTD XML formats are designed to allow
both of us to automate the process of requesting
and exchanging data. If you are able to respond
to a query in eOTD-q-xml by sending us a response
formatted in eOTD-r-xml we are authorized, as a
member of ECCMA, to certify your company as
compliant under ISO 8000-110. This will allow you
to register your company with ECCMA and obtain a
certificate of compliance under ISO 8000-110. The
certificate is valid for twelve months.
Registration with ECCMA is voluntary and there is
an annual registration processing fee of 100. If
you need copies of the eOTD XML schemas or
assistance with their implementation please visit
the ECCMA website at www.eccma.org.
