JHO VIEWS
  • Did not use discharge system - at all
  • Written discharge notes much faster and easier
  • Self taught, no time for formal training
  • When competent in system didnt see the point of
    training

10
JHO ON OTHER APPLICATIONS
  • Used other systems, but also self taught used
    someone elses password
  • Found radiology and lab results very useful
  • Uses these results as a good guide to treatment
  • Written report arrives in a few days but treat
    before this arrives

11
SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR
  • Checks the running of the system
  • very enthusiastic about the system
  • This system developed April 1996 has 3000 codes
    for diseases

12
SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR
  • old system ICD9 not very efficient
  • Had 1000 outstanding coding episodes before which
    is equal to 300,000-500,000
  • Professor Spence now settles his debt every day
    due to this new system!

13
SECURITY
  • Every member of staff has their own personal
    username password
  • After two minutes automatically logs out of the
    system
  • All the patients have their own patient number
which has to be entered rather than their name

14
BACKUP
  • Any data entered onto the system is stored on a
    file server
  • Data backed up nightly onto disk
  • Printout every morning to say how backup
    proceeded
  • Backup disks stored in fireproof safe in
    hospital
  • At end of week backups taken away and stored off
    site
