Title: GCSE Statistics Project

1
GCSE Statistics Project
  • Putting It All Together

2
Plan
  • Pretend this is your diary
  • What are you going to do and why?
  • Say something about the population as a whole
    (the hypothesis)
  • Say something about one section of the population
    (sub-hypothesis)
  • How are you going to see if these are true?

3
Sample
  • Choose an appropriate sample size
  • How will you make it a fair sample?
  • Sampling technique?
  • If stratified, how many strata (dimensions)?
  • Have you represented the population?

4
Calculations
  • Which calculations can you demonstrate?
  • Mean, Median, Mode, Range (very basic!)
  • Mean/Median of Grouped Frequency
  • Quartiles, Percentiles, IQR, Cum. Freq.
  • Standard Deviation
  • Spearmans Rank Correlation Coefficient
  • Why are they useful? Or reliable?

5
Diagrams
  • What diagrams can you demonstrate?
  • Here is a bar chart of my results (yawn!)
  • Histograms, Stem Leaf Diagrams
  • Cumulative Frequency, Box Whisker Plots
  • Scaled Pie Charts (Dont forget square root)
  • Why are they useful?
  • I can now compare and conclude

6
Interpret and Discuss
  • My calculations show that
  • As a result I have decided to try
  • My original hypothesis was therefore
  • My diagrams helped because
  • My conclusions are reliable because
  • I could also go on to investigate
