Standard Modified Crutch Acceleration Data
15
Conclusion from Dynamic Control of Impact on
Crutch Ambulation
  • The impact load had decreased by 43.3 and the
load at the wrist had also decreased by 72 in
    the modified crutch.
  • So what does this mean in real life? It means
a better life for the long-term crutch user. The
immediate result is a more comfortable stride
    compared with a standard crutch.

24
Dynamic Analysis
In direct dynamic problem, the external forces
and net muscle joint torques are available. The
goal is to find the angular trajectories by
solving a system of differential equations.

Future Master of Science
Degree Program in Assistive and Rehabilitative
Technology
  • A new MS program in assistive technology will be
offered at CSUN, starting in Spring 2010.
  • Two tracks of the program
  • Assistive and Rehabilitative Technology (ATR)
under the College of Engineering and Computer
    Science
  • Assistive Technology Human Services (ATHS)
under the College of Health and Human Development

29
Mission of the ATR
Program
  • The new MS degree program in ATR will serve
midcareer professionals who wish to focus or
refocus their careers in the ATR fields.
  • The program provides graduates with knowledge,
technical skills and managerial abilities needed
for success in specific assistive and
rehabilitative areas of professional practice and
    for leadership in the field.

30
Unique Program
Features
  • Collaborative effort of the design and delivery
of the curriculum by drawing expertise from
various colleges at CSUN and regional
    practitioner groups.
  • A shared core curriculum covers the essentials of
anatomy, biology, human factors. Beyond the
shared core, those aspire to work on engineering
design and development might follow an
engineering track while those aspire to provide
counseling and therapeutic services follow a
    human services track.

31
Unique Program Features
(Cont.)
  • The program will be offered in a cohort format by
integrating the curriculum to ensure that one
course builds on another and that assignments are
    designed within and across courses.
  • The cohort approach has proven to be effective
for working professionals in terms of high
    student retention and completion rates.

32
Proposed ATR Courses
  • The ATR degree program includes 10 courses (3
units each) and a culminating directed
comprehensive studies (3 units), for a total of
    33 units.
  • Research development components are embedded in
a series of interdisciplinary seminars and the
directed comprehensive studies, for a total of 6
    units.
  • The ATR is a 2-year program, which includes two
Fall, two Spring, and two Summer, for a total of
    6 terms.
