    generation

8

  • Lower cost of living
  • More affordable housing
  • Lower taxes
  • More job opportunities and better paying jobs
stand out as the principal actions which could
keep young professionals from exiting the Cape

9

going for themselves and their families today
  • Of those, 83 cite financial/economic issues

recent election 81 have joined or contributed
to an organization in support of a particular

not currently own hope to do so within three
    years
  • 70 are generally satisfied with the way things
are going for themselves and their families

12
Differences in Results
  • Many differences in the results are attributable
to the sample selection and the relative
    simplicity of the CCYP survey
  • Detailed breakdown in the survey, but keep in
mind the complexity of the MassInc. study and the
    wider demographic capture

13
Conclusions
  • Too many young people continue to look for
    opportunity elsewhere
  • Widespread unease about economic conditions, much
of which is related to localized issues not
    macro-economic conditions
  • The question for all of us remains what can we
do to retain more young people, what are our
attitudes about their role in the regions economy
and what consequences exist if we do not improve
    our retention of this demographic?
