Introduction of NAWOU and the Women Empowerment
Partnership.

• NAWOU is an umbrella organisation with a Mission
  To Promote the Growth of a Strong Womens
  Movement that claims womens Rights and enhances
  their social economic status.
• NAWOUs Vision is To See a Unified body of women
  and women organisations with skills and capacity
  for self- sufficiency.

Who are Partners with NAWOU for FK?

• Non- Governmental Organisation Coordinating
  Council -Zambia NGOCC
• Women of Tigray Association w.a.t-Ethiopia,
• Women Economic Governing Coordinating Council
  wegcc- Tanzania.
• What do we have in common?

Common Issues for African NGOs/civil society

• Dealing with issues of poverty, illiteracy,
  disease and inadequate information for personal,
  community and national development.
• Dealing with Governance challenges, denial of
  rights and more especially womens rights.
• Donor dependence , and questionable
  sustainability of programs.
• Government mistrust, and regulations.

What is the FK Program offering?

• A platform to partners to deal with issues of
  women in development,
• A program aimed at initiating the building of a
  strong and sustainable network of women
  empowerment organisations in Africa through
  exchange of experiences and practices.
• A facility for young men and women to gain
  experience in various fields relevant to needs of
  their countries and Africa in general.

What are partners envisioning ?

• Sending organisations expect the participants
  aged 26,29 and 32,one male and three female to
  share experiences and lessons-
• In promoting the participation of women in
  politics and leadership at various levels,
• In advocacy and facilitation skills,
• And, learn how to adapt in a placement from home
  while working in a multicultural set up.

Continuing on Visions

• In developing strategies to intergrate gender
  and HIV/AIDS in local economic development,
• In developing effective systems for micro-credit
  programs.

Our Hopes

• That the youth will share the enthusiasm of the
  sending and hosting organisations and work at
  realising the vision of the program,
• The officials at the partner organisations take
  the program seriously for better understanding
  and implementation,
• Fk officials patiently listen to the various
  reactions, complaints, comments in order to
  strengthen the program.
• Lastly, we hope that the Norwegian government
  will continue to support Africa and women in
  development.

In Conclusion

• I thank FK for a timely program that offers
  African organisations a chance to network and
  learn from each other and Europe as well.
• I thank organisers of the Forum08 for the work
  well done and look forward to a fruitful time,
• Lastly, thank you all for giving me an
  opportunity to address you and for listening.
