Welcome!
  • CRC and the NCBO welcome your participation and
recognize the commitment made in attending a 2.5
    d workshop
  • Briefing Book available (also at
    http//www.chesapeake.org/crcworkshops.htm)
  • The Radisson will meet all needs, including rooms
for visitors, catered foods across the day, and
breakout rooms (see Ms. Nina Fisher at desk)
  • There are leads and rapporteurs for all
    discussions
  • A final report will be produced and distributed

3
Workshop Conception
  • The workshop was derived as a result of comments
from Lowell Bahner, NOAA CBO Director, concluding
the spring, 2005 CBSAC Integrated Science Forum
  • Additional impetus included regional/national
    commitment to multi-species and ecosystem-based
fisheries management, evident in the Fisheries
Ecosystem Plan of 2004, that includes stocks,
    prey, and habitat considerations
  • And finally, bilateral state and ASMFC needs for
    high quality fish stock data

Workshop Steering Committee
  • Chris Bonzek (VIMS) Chair
  • A.C. Carpenter (Potomac River Fisheries
    Commission)
  • S. Giordano (NOAA CBO)
  • E. Houde (CBL-UMCES)

Objectives
  • To openly discuss and design a bay-wide fish
stock monitoring program critical to future
    multi-species and ecosystem-based fisheries
    management plans
  • Design a program specific to manager needs for
    fisheries management in the Bay
  • Develop a design which permits seamless data
access and use across the system
  • Use experiences from outside the Bay as a
foundation for what might be developed

6
External Expertise
  • Jerry Ault, RSMAS
  • Mary Christman, UFL
  • Bob McMichael, FWRI
  • Gary Shepherd, NOAAs NEFSC
  • Jon Volstad, Versar
  • Charles Wenner, SC DNR
  • Paul Winger, Memorial University

7
Products
  • A community developed bay-wide, integrated fish
stock monitoring program for future multi-species
    or ecosystem-based fisheries management
  • Used as foundation for Federal appropriations and
    RFPs
  • Serves as a core program for leveraged research
projects and expanded monitoring elements for
    critical fish, prey, and habitat
