Why the Wii ?

• Im sure you have heard of it but what does it
  mean for classroom interactivity ?
• Its not clear but I doubt Nintendo knew what
  they were doing when they developed the Wii

Why the Wii ?
The Nintendo Wii handset is capable of tracking
several infrared light sources.

When gaming you move the controller relative to a
fixed light source (the Wii lightbar) on the TV

Why the Wii ?
But if you fix the handset and move the light
then you can track the light. The handset uses
Bluetooth so can relay this tracking data to a
computer. This means it can be used to control
the movement of a mouse on a computer relatively
easily.

So this guy wrote some software which reads the
Wii handset tracking data, moves the mouse and
emulates the mouse click
I adapted a 3.99 Dr Who sonic screwdriver by
replacing the blue LED with an Infrared one
(50p)

Whiteboards advantages
Some points taken from JISC TechLearn briefing
Interactive Whiteboards in Education Maybe
techno-phobes will be more comfortable Easy to
demonstrate their potential to enhance
presentation. Easy for teachers to integrating a
wide range of material into a lesson in real
time. When used for interactive testing of
understanding for the entire class, they can
rapidly provide learner feedback.
