Before you begin typing
  • Read the question assigned and find its elements.
    Most questions include
  • A question you must find three arguments for.
  • A class reading you must use to support your
    ideas.
  • Use of class discussion and personal experiences
    to support your ideas.

Organize Your Interior Paragraphs
  • Plan for three interior paragraphs. Each should
    include a different argument that meets the
    assignment, a cite from the assigned reading that
    supports your argument, and a personal example
    that supports your opinion.

Outline Your Paper
  • Your first paragraph should summarize the whole
    paper, including the assignment requirements.
  • The middle three paragraphs present your
    arguments with their cites and examples.
  • Your final paragraph should summarize what you
    explained in the paper.

Before printing check
  • Do you have at least one cite for each argument
    and have you included the page number with the
    cite?
  • Have you shown how each argument is supported by
    a personal example?

For all assignments
  • Have you written in clear, complete sentences
    using proper grammar?
  • Have you spell checked your paper for errors?
  • Have you read your paper through once to make
    sure that you have created a logical flow between
    your ideas?
  • Is your name on the paper???

Grading Criteria
  • Elements
  • This refers to the specifics of the question in
    reference to the arguments to be made, the
    reading to be used, and the defense of your
    opinions.
  • If you have met the elements in all three
    examples you receive 25 points.

Cites
  • Citations must be from the assigned reading and
    include the author and page number.
  • Example(Wood 24.)
  • The cite must support the argument it is used for
    and be directly quoted or summarized for the
    reader. Use of at least one cite for each
    argument correctly formatted scores 25 points.

Personal Example
  • You must include a personal example for each of
    your arguments that helps to support your ideas.
    These examples can be taken from your
    participation in class, or experiences and/or
    observations made outside of class that are
    relevant to the question.

Form
  • Form refers to the clarity of your thoughts and
    if your ideas are well explained. If thoughts
    are incomplete or under-explained, form points
    will not we awarded. Good form for all
    paragraphs results in 25 points.
  • Form also includes mentioning all the assignment
    elements in the opening and closing paragraphs of
    the paper.
