Welcome to Third Grade!
  • I will introduce you to third grade and to our
    classroom.
  • I will go over our daily, weekly, monthly, and
    yearly sequence.

  • I grew up in Bloomington, Illinois.
  • I attended Oakland Elementary, University High
    School in Normal, and Illinois State University.
  • My experience
  • Ive been teaching for 10 years here at Lexington
    Elementary School.

My Goals
  • To give you the academic and social skills you
    need to progress to fourth grade.
  • To provide a supportive and fun classroom
    environment.
  • To help each student learn new skills, retain
    previous concepts taught, and discover new
    interests.

Reading
  • We will be reading a new story each week.
  • Several stories are short novels and may take two
    weeks to cover.

    sequencing, story elements, and summarizing.

  • The students will learn the basic parts of speech
    and types of sentences.
  • We will write several essays and stories.

Classroom Community
  • Our classroom is a community. In our community,
    we have rules to help us get along with each
    other.
  • Our class rules are
  • Be respectful and responsible.
  • Be organized and follow directions.
  • Be prepared each day.

Homework
  • I will assign about 30 minutes of homework almost
    every night. This includes 15 minutes of reading.
  • Your homework is due the following morning unless
    told otherwise.
  • If you need extra time to work on your homework,
    you can work during recess or studyhall.

Tardiness
  • School starts at 810 A.M.
  • If you arent in the classroom by the time the
    second bell rings, please check in at the school
    office before coming to class.
  • Any work missed will be made up during your
    recess.

Field Trips
  • We have lots of fun field trips planned for this
    year!
  • If chosen to come on a fieldtrip as a parent
    helper, parents must accompany the classroom on
    the ENTIRE fieldtrip and other children are not
    able to come on the trip.
