  • 177,000 residents over 110,000 km2
  • Sparsely populated areas that stretch from
    Jasper to Cold Lake and up north to Peerless Lake
  • Only RHA that has no regional hospital but has
    Centres of Specialties developed in strategic
    locations
  • Access specialist services from others such as
    Capital Health and Alberta Mental Health Board,
    among others

  • The Big Picture
  • To maintain and increase access to TeleClinical
    services for the clients in our region, the
    gameplan was to
  • maintain and increase clinical
    projects/partnerships
  • upgrade network/technology/equipment
  • install Telehealth equipment in needed
    communities
  • provide appropriate training, support and
    documentation
  • expand on existing programs and existing staff
  • increase awareness

  • To assist with stroke consultations and tPA
    administration, mobile TeleStroke equipment was
    installed in three Aspen Healthcare sites
    Hinton, Cold Lake and Westlock
  • Additional regional program initiatives included
    in the TeleStroke Overlay included Occupational
    Therapy and Mental Health

  • What Did We Learn,and How Did We Do It?
  • Involve IT early in preliminary planning stages
    of project
  • Stay positive and optimistic!!
  • COMMUNICATE, and provide updates on
    projects/initiatives (minimal as they may seem)
    to all pertinent parties (both internal and
    external) from the clinical lead to the on-site
    Telehealth Site Contact
  • Follow-up with everyone involved to keep project
    on track
  • Be tough when needed!
