joining us tonight. I am looking forward to a
very productive and exciting school year! It is
important for your child that you are here
tonight. I strongly believe in a Learning
Triangle to which student, parents, and teacher
all work together to create successful learning
experiences. You are a critical part of the
triangle. I look forward to working with you.
Together we can help your child have a very
successful year. Tonight I will quickly
review the 2nd grade curriculum and our
classrooms routines and procedures. .

- Brain Points points students earn in their table
groups when their table group makes good choices. - C notes students get nominated to win school
wide rewards. - Student Store students will earn pennies for
good behavior. They will be expected to trade in
their pennies for larger coins. They can use
these coins at the classroom student store.
- Behavior Chart
- Each day students begin on green. If they pull a
card once, they get a chance to go back to green
by making better choices. After that, their card
must remain pulled for the rest of the day. - This is the classroom system. If behavior is
severe enough, students may need to go straight
to the office. - Green Your Doing Great!

8- Writers Workshop
- Writers Workshop will enable your child to take
their own ideas and create them into books.
Students will be expected to write both
narrative, expository, and poetry pieces. - Writers Workshop will allow your child to
receive more one-on-one attention from both their
peers and their teacher, and allow them to grow
in their understanding of how to communicate
their ideas.

- Homework -
- Reading Log Each Monday a Reading Log. Please
have your child read each night and answer one of
the comprehension questions. - Math Your child will always bring home a
Problem on the Week home on Monday. Please
have them use pictures numbers and words to show
their work. Your child may receive additional
math pages throughout the week. - Writing Your child will be asked to write a
piece to go into a class book. - Spelling Your child will have ten spelling
words each week. These words will be written in
their planners. They are to be practice at home
and in the classroom to prepare for the tests on
Friday. - Snack - Snack will be in the afternoon this year
around 230. If you can pack a snack for your
student or if you would like to donate a box of
crackers to the class, it would be appreciated.
No candy!

- Volunteering Many of you have said you would
like to volunteer. Great! We need you! Please
sign up for a time period that you are
comfortable with. It would be great if you could
sign up for a time that would work consistently
for you each week. If not, we will discuss when
we can get you in the classroom. TO VOLUNTEER
YOU MUST HAVE YOUR WASHINGTON STATE PATROL FORM
TURNED IN! THIS INCLUDES FIELD TRIPS! - Birthdays we will sing your student a song, and
they will receive a crown to wear. IT IS A
SCHOOL RULE THAT NO TREATS BE BROUGHT IN FOR
BIRTHDAYS! - Conferences Look for information about October
conferences to come home at the beginning of
October. It is so important that we sit and talk
about how your child is doing and what we can do
to help them!

your child is doing in the classroom.
