Formatting Text
  • Formatting arranging the shape, size, type, and
    general makeup of a document.
  • To format a document, use the buttons on the
    Formatting toolbar or the commands on the Format
    menu.

Changing the Font
  • To apply a new font, choose Font on the Format
    menu to display the Font dialog box or use the
    Font box on the Formatting toolbar.

  • Fonts designs of type.

Font Style
  • Font style set of formatting features that can
    be applied to text to change its appearance.
  • The most common font styles are
  • Bold Underline
  • Italic
  • To change the font style, click the buttons on
    the Formatting toolbar.

Font Size
  • Font size determined by measuring the height of
    characters in units called points.
  • To change font size, choose Font on the Format
    menu or use the Font Size box on the Formatting
    toolbar.

Font Color
  • To change the color of text, select the text and
    choose Font on the Format menu, then click the
    down arrow next to the Font color box. You can
    also click the arrow on the Font Color button on
    the Formatting toolbar. Choose a color from the
    palette.

Font Effects
  • Font effects enhance your text. Select an option
    from the Effects section of the Font dialog box.

Changing Underline Style and Color
  • To choose an underline style, click the down
    arrow on the Underline style box and select a
    style from the drop-down list.
  • To choose an underline color, click the down
    arrow on the Underline color box and select a
    color from the palette.

Highlighting
  • Highlighting emphasizes text with color.
  • Select the text and click the down arrow on the
    Highlight button on the Formatting toolbar.

Changing Case
  • To change the case of text, select the text and
    choose Change Case from the Format menu. The
    Change Case dialog box appears.

Copying Format and Style
  • Format Painter copies the format and style of a
    block of text.
  • Select the formatted text to be copied. Click the
    Format Painter button, then select the text you
    want to format.

Margins
  • Margins blank areas around the top, bottom, and
    sides of a page.
  • To change the margin settings, choose Page Setup
    on the File menu and click the margins tab.

Line Spacing
  • Line spacing amount of space between lines of
    text.
  • Choose Paragraph on the Format menu, select the
    Indents and Spacing tab, and make changes in the
    Line spacing box.
  • Click the Line Spacing button on the Formatting
    toolbar.

Aligning Text
  • Alignment position of text between the margins.
  • There are four ways to align textleft-aligned,
    centered, right-aligned, and justified.
  • Choose Paragraph on the Format menu or click the
    alignment buttons on the Formatting toolbar.

Changing Indents
  • Indents space between the text and a documents
    margin.
  • Indent text using the indent markers on the
    horizontal ruler.
  • The types of indent markers are
  • First-line indent marker
  • Left indent marker
  • Hanging indent marker
  • Right indent marker

Vertical Alignment
  • Vertical alignment positioning of text between
    the top and bottom margins of a page.
  • Choose Page Setup on the File menu and select the
    Layout tab.
  • Click the down arrow on the Vertical Alignment
    box and choose Top, Center, Justified, or Bottom.

Apply Styles
  • Style predefined set of formatting options that
    have been named and saved.
  • Select the text and choose an existing style from
    the Style box on the Formatting toolbar.
  • You can also click the Styles and Formatting
    button or open the Format menu and choose Styles
    and Formatting.

  • Common font styles are bold, italic, and
    underline.
  • Font size is measured in points.
  • Color of text, style of underline, color of
    underline, and font effects can be changed in the
    Font dialog box.
