Title: Colossians 2:1115

1
Colossians 211-15
  • Freedom from the Power of Sin

2
Colossians 211-15
  • 11 In him you were also circumcised, in the
putting off of the sinful nature, not with a
circumcision done by the hands of men but with
the circumcision done by Christ, 12 having been
buried with him in baptism and raised with him
through your faith in the power of God, who
    raised him from the dead.

3
Colossians 211-15
  • 13 When you were dead in your sins and in the
uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made
you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our
sins, 14 having canceled the written code, with
its regulations, that was against us and that
stood opposed to us he took it away, nailing it
    to the cross.
  • 15 And having disarmed the powers and
authorities, he made a public spectacle of them,
triumphing over them by the cross.

Colossians 220-23 These are matters which
have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in
self-made religion and self-abasement and severe
treatment of the body, but are of no value
against fleshly indulgence.

  • Spiritual development is not getting something
more it is applying what you have already been
    given through Jesus.

  • Spiritual development is not getting something
more it is applying what you have already been
    given through Jesus.

Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the
Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted
and now being built up in Him and established in
your faith, just as you were instructed, and
overflowing with gratitude.   See to it that no
one takes you captive through philosophy and
empty deception, according to the tradition of
men, according to the elementary principles of
the world, rather than according to Christ.

What does identification mean? Jesus freedom
from sin At the cross, Jesus became identified
with us. When you received Christ, you became
completely identified with Jesus.

We know that our old sinful selves were
crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its
power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to
sin. 7 For when we died with Christ we were set
free from the power of sin. Romans 66-7

For the love of Christ controls us, having
concluded this, that one died for all, therefore
all died and He died for all, so that they who
live might no longer live for themselves, but for
Him who died and rose again on their behalf. 2
Corinthians 514-15

Your identity has been irrevocably changed.
The sin nature is nailed to the cross its fate
is sure. A new nature has been implanted the
life of Christ. (2 Peter 14)

Therefore, we take a stand against the sin

consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive
to God in Christ Jesus. Romans 611
