Title: Rawhide Coal Firing Plant

1
Rawhide Coal Firing Plant
  • The facts about the environment and the plants
    stance

2
The coal firing plants
  • The primary emissions from this plant are Sulfur
Dioxide (SO2), Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), and ash.
  • We employ the use of state-of-the-art scrubbers
    which reduce the Sulfur Dioxide.
  • We also use fire-box enhancements to reduce the
    level of Nitrogen Oxides omitted.

3
Our environmental commitment
  • We voluntarily offered to reduce our already
record low pollutants for the Colorado Air
    Pollution Control Division
  • Our emissions are already lower than permitted by
    the state.

4
Capacity
  • We have a rating of 270MW
  • In 2002 our capacity load was at 86.2
  • In 2002, Rawhide unit one generated 2,039,920 MWh
    of energy

5
Resources

Total Current Capacity 690 MW (summer), 790 MW
(winter)
6
Locations serviced by Rawhide
  • Fort Collins
  • Estes Park
  • Loveland
  • Longmont

7
Location of Resources
  • Our coal is quarried from the Platte River Valley
and therefore supports the local economy
  • Trainloads of coal come in every other day
  • Wind turbines are located in Kansas

8
Consumption of Resources
  • Rawhide Coal Firing Plants use 1,184,800 tons of
    coal a year on average

9
Peak times of consumption
  • The summer is the time of most demand because of
    the need for air conditioning
  • From the hours of 3 p.m. and 7 p.m are the most
    demanding hours
