Image Interpretation

• I-123 MIBG showed no abnormal uptake in either
  suprarenal region to suggest pheochromocytoma. CT
  abdomen showed no adrenal mass.
• Contrast enhanced CT scan of the chest showed a
  6cm enhancing mass within the posterior
  mediastinum lying anterior to the oesophagus and
  posterior to the pulmonary artery displacing the
  left atrium.
• An In-111 Octreotide Scan was performed following
  CT scan which showed an intense uptake in the
  mediastinum corresponding to the mass.

POST OPERATIVE FINDINGS

• Mass in the posterior mediastinum firmly adherent
  to left atrium. Left atrial wall removed.
• Histopathology revealed paraganglioma.
• The cells stained with 7 chromogranin A, NSE, PGP
  9.5, synaptophysin and CD56 consistent with
  paraganglioma.
• Patient had good post op recovery.
