• Foster visits the Hematology Oncology Clinic

• Foster and his mom arrive at the clinic for
  his weekly clinic visit. Foster was diagnosed
  with cancer last year, and is receiving treatment
  at Childrens Mercy. He is wearing his mask so he
  wont breathe in any germs that could make him
  sick.

• Foster waits while his mom signs him in.
  Fosters mom or dad always need to make sure that
  all of the information that the clinic has is
  correct.

• Before he heads into the room to get weighed and
  measured, Foster shows one of his clinic friends
  his new calendar!

• Foster is happy to see how much he has grown
  since his last visit!

• Foster and his friend, Harry see how they measure
  up!

• On his way to his room, Foster runs into another
  friend and gets one more hug!

• This is the infusion room where kids sometimes
  get their chemotherapy. Foster doesnt need to
  go into the infusion area today.

• Foster takes a quick peek around to see if any of
  his Child Life friends or volunteers are there
  yet. They are fun to play with while you are in
  this area.

• Now that he is in his room, Foster is allowed to
  take off his mask and relax before the nurse and
  doctor come to see him.

• As long as he is waiting, Foster decides that he
  might as well practice up on his video skills.

• The nurse draws out some blood that will go to
  the lab to be tested. Foster watches and learns
  how she puts blood in different tubes for
  different tests.

• Foster is getting some of his chemotherapy drugs
  today. The drugs are very strong and do things
  like make his hair fall out. Foster knows that
  they also will help make him better.

• Blood tests done, medicine given, time for a pose
  before Foster gets to see his doctor.

• While he has waited, Foster has drawn a great
  picture to show Dr. Emami.

• Dr. Emami gets to examine Foster and find out how
  he is doing. Once he is finished, Foster can go
  home. If he needs anything, he knows that his
  friends at CMH are just a phone call away.

• Each year, hundreds of children visit the
  Hematology/Oncology clinic at Childrens Mercy.
  Some children, like Foster, have cancer. Because
  of specially trained staff, Foster can get much
  of his care in the clinic and go home. While it
  is always wonderful to see Fosters smiling face
  in the clinic, we think it is also wonderful that
  his family gets to enjoy him at home!
