Title: Study Island Contest Entry

1
Study Island Contest Entry
  • Freetown Lakeville Middle School
  • Team 6200

2
SURVIVOR FLMS
  • Design a map for survivors
  • Build a shelter and decorate it
  • Design a banner
  • Track students progress
  • Reward blue ribbon recipients

3
Our Map Design
  • The five standards are represented as areas on
the map, and have landmarks named with math
terms. For example, in Number Sense and
Operations you will find the Factorization Forest
and Divisibility Delta. The Symmetry Mountains
and Pyramid Point are found in Geometry. The map
shows the way to Study Island Dome!

Our ShelterA Geodesic Dome
  • We decided to make a geodesic dome
  • shelter out of rolled sheets of newspaper.
  • Constructing it was fun! Since it was so
  • small, we raised it by using boxes as the
  • lower level. Then we decorated it with a
  • tropical theme!

Design a banner.
  • We decided to use the theme Survivor, and
instead of Outwit, Outlast, and Outplay, we used
Master, Achieve, Conquer, and Succeed. Our goal
is for the students to improve their math skills
and be more successful on the upcoming MCAS test.

Track Student Progress
  • We have five math classes on the 6200 team.
Each class has its own Progress Chart. When
students receive Blue Ribbons in a topic,
stickers are placed on the chart on the wall.

Reward Blue Ribbon Recipients
  • When students achieve Blue Ribbons in each of
the subtopics, their names are recorded on the
Blue Ribbon Banner. Each standard has an assigned
color, and students receive jelly bracelets in
the color of the standards. They then have their
    pictures taken in the cut-out.
