The Himalayas are a mountain range in Asia
that separates the Indian subcontinent from the
Tibetan Plateau. The mountain range extends over
the territory of Pakistan, China, India, Nepal
and Bhutan. Ten of the fourteen highest peaks in
the world, the so-called eight-thousanders, are
located in this mountain range. The highest
mountain in the Himalayas and the world is Mt.
Everest (8,849 m above sea level).
Longitudinalally, the Himalayas are divided into
parallel mountain ranges of different heights and
different ages, which rise gradually from south
to north. The climate varies from tropical at the
foot of the mountains to eternal snow and ice in
the highest elevations. Three of the world's
major river systems originate in the Himalayas -
the Indus, Ganges and Brahmaputra, and the
Yangtze. Himalayan flora and fauna vary according
to climate, rainfall, and altitude.
El Himalaya es una cordillera en Asia que
separa el subcontinente indio de la meseta
tibetana. Se extiende por el territorio de
Pakistán, China, India, Nepal y Bután. Diez de
los catorce picos más altos del mundo, los
llamados ochomiles, se encuentran en esta
cordillera. La montaña más alta del Himalaya y
del mundo es el Monte Everest (8.849 m sobre el
nivel del mar). Longitudinalmente, el Himalaya se
divide en cordilleras paralelas de diferentes
alturas y edades, que se elevan gradualmente de
sur a norte. El clima varía desde tropical al pie
de las montañas hasta nieves y hielos eternos en
las elevaciones más altas. Tres de los
principales sistemas fluviales del mundo se
originan en el Himalaya el Indo, el Ganges y el
Brahmaputra, y el Yangtsé. La flora y la fauna
del Himalaya varían según el clima, las
precipitaciones y la altitud.
Himaláje sú pohorím v Ázii, ktoré oddeluje
Indický subkontinent od Tibetskej náhornej
planiny. Pohorie zasahuje na územie Pakistanu,
Cíny, Indie, Nepálu a Bhutánu. V tomto pohorí sa
nachádza desat zo štrnástich najvyšších vrcholov
sveta, takzvaných osemtisícoviek. Najvyššou horou
Himalájí aj sveta je Mt. Everest (8 849 m n.m.).
Pozdlžne sa Himaláje clenia na rôzne vysoké a
rôzne staré súbežné horské pásma, ktoré sa
stupnovito zdvíhajú od juhu na sever. Podnebie sa
mení od tropického na úpätí hôr až po vecný sneh
a lad v najvyšších polohách. V Himalájach
pramenia tri z hlavných svetových riecnych
systémov Indus, Ganga a Brahmaputra,
Jang-c'-tiang. Himalájska flóra a fauna sa líši
podla podnebia, daždov a nadmorskej výšky.
