Title: Polymorphic Light Eruption

1
POLYMORPHIC LIGHT ERUPTION (PMLE)
2
Introduction to PMLE
Polymorphic Light Eruption (PMLE) is a common
skin reaction caused by sunlight exposure. It
primarily affects fair-skinned individuals and
appears as red, itchy rashes on sun-exposed
areas. The symptoms typically develop within
hours of sun exposure and may last for several
days.
3
Causes of PMLE
Sunlight Exposure
01
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation triggers an abnormal
immune response, leading to skin inflammation.
Genetic Factors
02
A family history of PMLE may increase
susceptibility.
Seasonal Occurrence
03
PMLE is more common in spring and early summer
when the skin is re-exposed to sunlight after
winter.

Symptoms of PMLE
  • Red, itchy rashes on sun-exposed areas like the
    arms, chest, and face.
  • Burning or stinging sensation that may cause
    discomfort.
  • Swelling and small blisters in severe cases.
  • Symptoms typically appear within hours of sun
exposure and may last for several days.

    sunglasses).
  • Use broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30, reapply
    every 2 hours).
