Wax Additives / Processing Aids
  • Lubricant / PE Wax
  • Polymers are made of long chain molecules of
varying sizes and distributions. These polymers
    tend to be
  • Relatively viscous above their melt temperature.
  • Sticky above their melt temperature.
  • Lubricants serve to decrease the frictional
    forces found between
  • Polymer Polymer
  • Polymer Metal
  • Polymer Filler
  • Filler Filler

6
Wax Additives / Processing Aids
  • Micronised Wax
  • A good definition of micronized wax is a wax
powder with an average particle size of less than
    ten micrometers.
  • Only hard wax can be ground this fine. Only low
melt viscosity wax can be sprayed this fine.
  • Micronised wax products are successfully used
today in many industries, such as paints,
    coatings, plastics, inks and adhesives.

7
Wax Additives / Processing Aids
  • Wax Emulsion
  • Wax emulsion refers to the water based system
with the particle size distribution below 1 µm,
distinguished by the emulsion iconicity, it can
be non ionic, anionic, and cationic.
  • Wax emulsion is different from wax dispersion it
has no matting effect and is used for coating and
inks which has high requirement on gloss.

Inorganic Rheology Modifiers
  • Attapulgite
  • Attapulgite, a naturally occurring mineral, is a
    crystalline hydrated magnesium alumino-silicate
with a three dimensional chain structure that
gives it unique colloidal and sorptive
    properties.
  • Fully hydrated attapulgite grades thickens
    liquids without swelling. Highly thermally
activated grades combine high surface area with
    porosity to optimize sorptivity.

9
Inorganic Rheology Modifiers
  • Bentonite
  • Bentonite Aluminum Silicate (Al4
    Si6Al2O20(OH)4)2-.nH2O, which consists mostly
    of the mineral montomorillonite.
  • It is valued for its ability to swell in water
and to impart useful rheological properties to
    aqueous compositions.
  • Bentonite consists of aggregates of flat
platelets that have a high specific surface area,
high plasticity, expand when wet and is inert
    and non-toxic.

10
Inorganic Rheology Modifiers
  • Organo Clay
  • Organoclay is an organically modified
    phyllosilicate (Bentonite), derived from a
    naturally occurring clay mineral.
  • The main component of Organoclay is bentonite, a
chemically altered volcanic ash that consists
primarily of the clay mineral montmorillonite.
