What is TMJ?
The temporomandibular joint is abbreviated as
TMJ. Your temporomandibular joints are right in
front of your ears on both sides of your face.
The TMJs are the joints that link your lower
jawbone to your skull and help you chew and
speak.
3
What is TMJ disorder?
When the muscles and ligaments that surround
your jaw joints become inflamed or irritated,
TMJ dysfunction occurs. The pain might be minor
or severe, depending on whether the illness is
acute or persistent.
4
TMJ Disorder
TMJ disorders are the most frequent medical
concern, and patients may experience a variety
of symptoms, including headaches, jaw joint
pain, and tooth pain. They find it difficult to
open their mouth because of these symptoms.
5
TMJ Disorder Symptoms
6
Jaw Joint pain
TMJ patients are familiar with the symptoms of
jaw joint pain. When yawning or chewing, many
people hear popping, grinding, or clicking
sounds. Jaw joint discomfort can be either
regular and dull or erratic and severe.
7
Tooth Pain
Patients who suffer from toothaches crush their
teeth. This is because the jaw joints and teeth
absorb a lot of strain. It also causes severe
pain in both locations of the cheeks.
8
Headaches
TMJ problems can cause moderate to severe
headaches. It is caused by ligament and muscle
strain as a result of incorrect jaw joint
articulation. This discomfort might also result
in a throbbing neck and pinched nerves.
9
Treatments
Our dentist may recommend jaw exercises, mouth
guards, and bite therapy to treat TMJ issues.
10
Mouth Guards
These are protective mouthpieces constructed of
a particular soft plastic that prevents teeth
from crushing.
11
Jaw Exercises
They help to relieve clenching, relax the jaw,
and align the teeth. The dentist demonstrates a
few easy jaw exercises that can be done in front
of the mirror.
12
Bite Therapy
  • Bite Therapy entails a thorough examination of
the jaw and mouth to determine the true cause of
the TMJ condition. Dentists utilize a variety of
equipment to assess bite pressure, relieve pain,
    and correct misalignment.
