A Guide to the Project Management Body
of Knowledge
A Guide to the Project Management Body of
Knowledge
Project management is a technique for making
sure that products are meeting the customer
requirements, that the team is on schedule, and
that the budget is not getting out of control.
Project Management is the practice of managing
an objective or a task that needs to be
accomplished within a specific time frame.
PMP (Project Management Professional) is a
certification offered by Project Management
Institute. This certification is made for project
managers and project team members. The PMP exam
is a must for becoming successful project
managers. The PMP certification training or
Project Management Professional training cum
certification is the mark of a person who has
achieved solid theoretical grounding in the basic
principles of project management and has acquired
substantial, hands-on experience in the
application of these principles to project
management.
The 10 Project Management Knowledge Areas The
Project Management Knowledge Areas are essential
in order to completely comprehend project
management. These areas consist of a complete and
systematic approach to project management.

A project manager needs to understand ten
knowledge areas 1. Business Environment 2.
Project Management Processes 3. Project
Management Tools And Techniques 4. Project
Management Systems 5. Human Resources And
Project Management 6. Communications 7.
Risk Management 8. Procurement And
Contracting 9. And Change Management 10.
Scope And Deliverables Other areas include
cost and funding schedule, team skills,
communication and collaboration, quality, risk
and issues, procurement, human resource and
ethics, change management, and process
improvement. Project Management Professional
(PMP) is knowledge-intensive, that is to say,
that knowledge is a major input. The PMBOK
recognizes four knowledge management areas as
inputs to project management, namely, Project
Integration Management, Project Scope Management,
Project Time Management, and Project Cost
Management. In addition, the Project Human
Resource Management knowledge area is considered
an input to Project Management as well as a
Project Output (that is, Project Management
itself). The Project Communications
Management knowledge area is considered an input
to the Project Output but not to the Project
Management knowledge area. There is no
knowledge area pertaining to project risk
management because risk management is an integral
part of all processes and activities. The PMBOK
Guide lists fourteen knowledge areas in all,
including the six project management knowledge
areas.

PMBOK Project Management Body of Knowledge
Project Management Institute (PMI) defines
Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) as a
collection of concepts, principles, and
processes. The things you do and the way you do
them define project management. PMI's
Project Management Body of Knowledge is a
comprehensive and integrated guide for any
project manager, regardless of the project
management technique used. The PMBOK is a
guide for a project manager to use to ensure
project success. The PMBOK is a framework to
ensure that the project manager is applying the
same practices, management techniques, and
knowledge to any type of project. PMI - ACP
