Reasons Why Cold Weather Affect Joints
Many types of research point to barometric
pressure rather than temperature single as the
governing cause of weather-related joint
discomfort. Barometric pressure is the weight
of the Earths atmosphere. It alters locally
because of pressure systems that influence
climate and rain. The Arthritis Foundation infers
that these differences, like a cold or warm
beginning moving in, can have the chief impact on
the joints. So its not only the cold but rather
changes in air pressure that induce difficulties.
Some experts suggest that decreases in barometric
pressure cause tendons, muscles, and surrounding
tissues expand, putting pressure on joints.
Others infer lower temperatures may expand the
viscosity of the synovial fluid that cushions the
joints, slowing it down and prohibiting it from
doing its job. Lifestyle and mental health
components can also come into play. Workout often
decreases in winter, implying less movement and
more immobility in the joints.
Some of the other theories why the cold and damp
weather lead to joint pain are-
3
  • Atmospheric pressure that act on joints decreases
in winter time which allowes the joints to the
expand a little bit which results in stretching
of tissues around the joint, destruction of
tissues can irritate the ending of the nose which
can cause excessive pain during the winter time.
  • Cold whether generally causes stiffness of the
muscles which make them hard to move and this
might be another reason why people complain to
perceive more pain during the winter season.

4
  • During the cold weather the synovial fluid which
is present inside the joint thickens down which
can lead to less lubrication , this may create
friction in the joints causing more pain while
    movement of the joint.
  • In cases of arthritis people prefer to stay
indoors as going outdoors in cold weather tend to
    worsen the joint pain.
  •  Increased nerve sensitivity this is the
condition which is most commonly seen in people
who have current for any past joint injuries. Any
type of scarring inflammation can cause the
nerves to be more hypersensitive in cold weather
so as the temperature drops it results into joint
    pain.
