  • A new year means a chance to create unique and
    healthy habits that will help you enjoy the year
    to the fullest. As we move into 2022, the
    COVID-19 pandemic still significantly affects our
    daily lives. Especially for the more at-risk
    population such as the senior population
    taking precautions to stay healthy in this new
    year is essential. So make sure that this year
    you make senior health a top priority.
  • So, how can you help improve the home care for
    your elderly loved ones and help them stay
    healthy this year? To help you with this crucial
    task, we have created a list of healthy habits
    that both caregivers and seniors alike can use to
    stay healthy in this new year.

Wash Your Hands
  • The COVID-19 pandemic has completely upset our
    daily routines and served as a source of anxiety
    for many of us. However, because of the constant
    exposure to terrible sicknesses, many beneficial
    and healthy habits have become extremely
    important especially washing hands frequently.
  • As we get older, exposure to viruses and common
    colds can become way more threatening, and as
    such, making sure to thoroughly and frequently
    wash your hands becomes more important than
    ever.

Reach Out to Friends and Family
  • The past few years have been incredibly
    isolating. Especially for the elderly population,
    visiting relatives and friends was not easy in
    2020 and 2021. While maybe safe in-person
    interaction with family and friends might not be
    possible for you at this time, it is essential to
    have meaningful interactions with loved ones. 
  • Luckily, there are ways to reach out to friends
    and family that are safe and still extremely
    meaningful. Even if you cannot have in-person
    meetings with your loved ones, there are many
    different options for virtual conversations. From
    Zoom to FaceTime, there are many different ways
    that you can interact with your loved ones if it
    is unsafe to meet in person.

Make Healthy Eating Choices
  • One significant part of staying healthy is
    maintaining a nutritious diet. Unfortunately, it
    can be easy to overlook eating healthy in senior
    living, mainly because preparing healthy meals
    requires more attention. 
  • However, making an effort to eat healthier poses
    incredible benefits to senior health. Finding
    ways to incorporate more fiber, calcium, and
    vitamins into your diet are simple ways that you
    can drastically improve your overall health.

Exercise Doesnt Have to Be a Big Commitment
  • While we often hear that 30 minutes a day of
    exercise is the right amount, in reality, that
    isnt an option for everyone. Because of this is
    why, here, we suggest just committing to 10
    minutes of exercise a day. These 10 minutes do
    not have to be intense they can be something as
    simple as going for a walk, doing yoga, guided
    exercises, or swimming. The point is to commit to
    just 10 minutes a day of getting your body moving.

Keep Your Brain in Shape!
  • But exercising your bodys muscles arent the
    only things that benefit from being active! The
    brain is an incredible organ that requires just
    as much attention as the rest of your body to
    maintain mental health and memory. 
  • Whether you are playing fun brain games that
    stimulate your memory, or you are simply making
    sure to engage in active conversations that
    stimulate your brain, working your brain as well
    as your body is a fantastic way to stay healthy
    this year.

Have a Positive Mindset!
  • A positive mindset is essential to achieving an
    amazing healthy new year. Whether you are
    implementing a new, more nutritious diet, making
    sure to be active every day, or anything else, it
    all starts with a positive mindset. A positive
    attitude will help you through any challenges and
    obstacles you might encounter this year. And that
    is why maintaining a positive mindset is
    essential to making sure that your 2022 is as
    healthy as it can be.
  • A new year is an opportunity for new healthy
    habits, but it can also be challenging to
    navigate these new habits for seniors, their
