Top 7 Essentials for Marine Equipment in Dubai
1) Life Jackets - Whether you have children,
or adults on board, they all NEED a proper
fitting life jacket. It is the single most
important piece of safety equipment that you can
have, and the easiest to operate. You simple WEAR
IT, and it is ready for any "man overboard"
situation that can arise.
  1. Anchor rope - One of the most neglected pieces
of equipment has to be the anchor. It plays a
vital role in everyday boating since it can save
you, and your boat from serious damage should you
suffer from "mechanical failure'. The anchor
should be securely attached, and the anchor rode
    examined for excessive wear.
  2. Marine charts - It's the law to have Marine
Navigational Charts on board. It also makes good
sense to have them "up-to-date", and covering the
bodies of water that you will be navigating.
  3. Safety equipment - The Coast Guard requirements
state that all vessels have to have a minimum
amount of equipment on board depending on boats
size, and use. Common items such as Anchor,
    Life Jackets, Navigation lights, Sound
    signaling device, Fire Extinguishers, Bilge
pumps or Manual pumping device, Float
lines, re boarding device (ladder for free
board), just to name a few. For exact details
contact your local Coast Guard office.
  4. Fuel It's the number one reason of
"boating incidents". You can easily save
yourself the headache by simply filling up
before heading out to go boating. You

2
  • should remember the 1/3 rule, which is 1/3 to get
to your destination, 1/3 to back from your
destination, and finally 1/3 of the fuel which is
reserve. The reserve fuel can be important since
certain factors like current, wind, and bad
weather can aff ect your fuel economy.
  • Water Spare clothes - Even when the weather
forecast is calling for a lovely day, you never
know when "mother nature" can through your plans
overboard! By having fresh water, and some spare
dry clothes, you can make the difference
between a good day, and a bad day.
  • VHF Radio - With today's "connected"
    society, cellular phones are readily
available, however they do not replace the Marine
VHF radio. The advantages of VHF are that you can
quickly, and easily reach the Coast Guard, in
case of an emergency. Since the majority of
boaters scan/listen to channel 16, they could
very well be the first to arrive and offer
assistance at a time of need. Any seasoned boater
will tell you that the VHF is indispensable in
    the nautical environment.
