  • Canada is a country known for its high-quality
education which is one reason why more than
130,000 students travel to Canada every year to
pursue their studies. Not only is Canada home to
some of the best universities in the world, but
it also provides a homely culture to outsiders
and opens doors to numerous possibilities in your
    career.
  • If youve decided to study in Canada, the next
apparent step in your mind would be to apply for
a Canada Student Visa and you are probably making
yourself familiar with the processes. But what
are the things you should keep in mind before
applying for a Student Visa for studying in
Canada? Here we will explain to you 5 things you
should know before applying for your Canada
Student Visa to make the process easier.

1. DO YOU NEED A STUDENT VISA OR PERMIT?
  • Well, lets address the most obvious thing first.
Do you need a student visa or a permit for the
course you have chosen? Under some circumstances,
you dont need a student visa for studying in
Canada but you would need a permit. A student
visa would not apply to you if the duration of
the course that youre trying to enrol in is less
than six months. You would however need an
electronic travel authorisation. So check that
    accordingly.

2. GET YOUR DOCUMENTS READY
  • To apply for a study visa in Canada you would
need the following documents. It is a good idea
to prepare them in advance before starting the
    application process.
  • Filled-in application form
  • Letter of acceptance from the University
  • A valid passport
  • Two recent passport-sized photographs
  • Proof of funds to support your study program and
your stay in Canada for the duration
  • A letter of explanation stating your reason for
    studying in Canada
  • A certificat dacceptation du Québec (CAQ) from
the Quebec government if you plan to study in
    Quebec

3. KNOWING THE LANGUAGES
  • Unless you come from an English-speaking country
you will be required to pass one of the approved
language tests and submit your results. The
following tests are accepted by Canada.
  • IELTS Academic
  • TOEFL iBT
  • PTE Academic
  • C1 Advanced

4. BIOMETRICS AND INTERVIEW
  • You may have to submit your biometrics data to a
Visa Application Centre as a part of the
application process. But this depends on your
nationality and some countries are exempt from
this step. Check if it is applicable for you. If
yes, you may have to pay an additional processing
fee of CAD 85 for this process.
  • You may also be required to visit the visa
application centre for a face-to-face interview.
This would require another minor fee.

7
5. HOW LONG WOULD YOU HAVE TO WAIT?
  • Once youre done with the application there is
nothing much to do except wait for the
authorities to process your application. The
processing time is usually 90 days but you should
be able to receive your visa sooner.
  • An alternate option for achieving faster
processing times is using the Student Direct
Stream which is available to students from the
    following countries.
  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • Brazil
  • China
  • Colombia
  • Costa Rica
  • India
  • Morocco
  • Pakistan
  • Peru
  • Philippines
  • Senegal
  • Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
  • Trinidad and Tobago
  • Vietnam
