The Benefits Of Dental Implants
Your facial presentation is the first impression
anyone can take of you, this is what we humans
strive for, since before Christ people tried to
replace missing tooth to look presentable, teeth
were replaced with different items, few knew that
such activity would evolve so much to be the
most used and advanced solution for a lost tooth
(1) which is known today as Dental
Implant. Leonard Linkow knows as the father of
modern implant dentistry (2) has put the
fundamentals for the widely used process of
replacing a missing tooth with a titanium root
that enters the jawbone to support a tooth-like
crown, which looks and acts as a natural tooth,
and is able to last a lifetime. Few
alternatives are available to replace a missing
tooth, it is up to the dentists judgement of
the patient condition, jawbone durability, and
medical record to decide between denture,
bridge, or dental implant, where the latter seems
to be the most favorable for the following
reasons Natural-looking An implant with the
crown does visually look like a natural tooth and
when the treatment process finishes, it would be
hard to distinguish the natural tooth from the
treated one(s) Function Once the titanium
implant is fitted firmly into the jawbone and the
crown is tightly aligned with other teeth, the
implant serves as a normal working tooth
providing an almost similar biting force, and it
can be brushed and flossed normally as
well. Durability When well taken care of, and if
the patient refrains from any harmful activities
such as biting hard substances or smoking, the
dental implant can last for years due to the
lasting nature of the titanium. Confidence An
important factor in choosing the dental implant
over other alternatives (bridge denture) is
the crown's natural look, which makes the person
not anxious about smiling, speaking, or
eating. Preventing bone loss When a tooth is
missing, and the jawbone is exposed without any
root that encourages the bone ossification, as
the time passes the jawbone mass will start to
deteriorate due to the lack
2
of stimulation, which is fixed when a titanium
dental implant is placed, then the jawbone
growth is encouraged. Support for the adjacent
teeth The gap created when a tooth is missing
will result in weaker adjacent teeth. That is why
once the dental implant covers the gap, it keeps
the other teeth aligned strictly without having
them prone to any damage or instability. Healthy
gum Similar to the resulting gap between teeth,
and uncovered gum is exposed to the air that
carries germs. Eventually, the gum will host
bacteria and cavities, damaging that spot in the
gum and spreading alongside the whole gum. Easy
care Dental implants can be looked after similar
to a person taking care of their natural teeth,
brushing, and frequently flossing to keep
healthy-looking teeth. Despite being favorable,
the dental implant might not be the ideal option
for everyone. Few factors need to be measured by
the dentist, and those are jawbone mass and the
health of the oral tissues. Moreover, the
process of dental implant is a long-term process
that requires patience and frequent check-ups.
