Difference Between Knitted Fabrics Woven Fabrics
2
Introduction
  • Wearing an outfit turns out to be a pleasant
experience when it is made with good quality
fabrics. Knitted fabrics and woven fabrics are
highly being used in the current industry ranging
from clothes to cushion covers and from curtains
    to bed sheets.
  • In this presentation, we shall have a look on the
major differences between knitted fabrics and
    woven fabrics.

3
What is Knitted Fabric?
  • Fabric that is made up of a single yarn, looped
continuously to produce a braided look forms a
knitted fabric. It can be easily assembled into
smaller pieces and this makes it ideal for
    producing socks and hats.
  • The chief raw materials used for knit fabrics are
silk, linen, cotton, wool, viscose and rayon.
Knitted fabrics suppliers add different synthetic
materials to build the best combination of their
    knit quality and durability.

4
What is Woven Fabric?
  • Textile formed by weaving is called woven fabric.
They are usually produced on a loom and are
composed of several threads woven on a warp and a
weft. Woven fabric can also be defined as any
fabric formed by interlacing two or more threads
at right angles to one another.
  • Broadcloth, denim, drill, poplin, cotton sateen,
flannelette, lawn, corduroy etc. are the major
    examples of woven fabrics.

Knitted Fabrics Vs. Woven Fabrics
  • Now let us have a look on the major differences
between knitted fabrics and woven fabrics
  • Manufacturing Knitted fabrics are produced by a
set of connected loops from a series of yarns
whereas a woven fabric is produced by interlacing
two types of threads. Usually, knitted fabrics
are thin and woven fabrics are thick in size.
With the increase in demand for fabrics, the
number of reliable woven knitted fabrics
suppliers is also on the rise.

6
Knitted Fabrics Vs. Woven Fabrics
  • Look Knit fabric is made out of a single yarn
that is looped continuously to produce a braided
look. But woven fabric contains multiple yarns
that are weaved in such a way that they create a
    criss-cross pattern.
  • Stretch Another way to recognize between the
woven and knit fabric is by stretching them. A
knit fabric will quickly stretch along with its
width whereas a woven fabric will not stretch
through its width and only stretch slightly along
    its length.

7
Knitted Fabrics Vs. Woven Fabrics
  • Wrinkle Resistance Knitted fabrics and woven
    fabrics behave differently with wrinkle
resistance. Knit fabric can be easily pressed,
but it will regain its shape after some time.
While woven fabric, on being pressed gets
wrinkled and does not regain its shape easily.
  • Cost Woven fabrics are costlier than knitted
fabrics since they are made up of multiple yarns.

8
Knitted Fabrics Vs. Woven Fabrics
  • Durability Knitted fabrics offer excellent
strength and flexibility and hence they are more
    durable than woven fabrics.
  • Breathability This is another feature to be
considered while distinguishing both knitted and
woven fabrics. Knit fabrics are usually cool and
highly breathable. While woven fabrics are
    generally thick and unbreathable.
