1
WHY DRUG ADDICTION IS BAD AN EXPLANATION IN INDIA
  • Know About Why Drug Addiction is Bad

2
What is drug addiction?
  • Drug addiction is a chronic disease characterized
by compulsive, or uncontrollable, drug seeking
and use despite harmful consequences and changes
in the brain, which can be long-lasting. These
changes in the brain can lead to the harmful
behaviors seen in people who use drugs. Drug
addiction is also a relapsing disease. Relapse is
the return to drug use after an attempt to stop.
  • The path to drug addiction begins with the
voluntary act of taking drugs. But over time, a
person's ability to choose not to do so becomes
compromised. Seeking and taking the drug becomes
compulsive. This is mostly due to the effects of
long-term drug exposure on brain function.
Addiction affects parts of the brain involved in
reward and motivation, learning and memory, and
    control over behavior.

How Does Drug Addiction Affect Families IN INDIA?
  • While it is easy to see how and why drug
addiction is bad for the individual, most people
do not realise that the harm does not stop there.
Addiction is actually referred to as a family
illness because of the way in which it causes
harm to all family members of those affected. When
one member of the family is affected by drug
addiction, it can have lasting implications for
everyone else, literally turning their entire
    world upside down.
  • Watching a loved one struggle with addiction
while being unable to help is heart-breaking. But
addiction within a family unit can also cause
other problems. Some family members will develop
what is known as co-dependency, where they become
so obsessed with the addict and his or her life
that it begins to interfere with their own health
    and wellbeing.

Physical harms from drug use
  • Drug use can affect short- and long-term health
outcomes. Some of these health outcomes can be
    serious, and possibly irreversible.
  • Drug use can lead to risky or out of character
    behaviour. When affected by drugs
  • You are more likely to have an accident (at home,
in a car, or wherever you are).
  • You may be vulnerable to sexual assault or you
may engage in unprotected sex. Either of these
could lead to pregnancy and sexually transmitted
    infection.
  • You could commit a sexual assault or other
    violent act.
  • You may find it hard to sleep, think, reason,
    remember and solve problems.

5
SYMPTOMS OF DRUG ADDICTION

daily or even several times a day.

    same effect.

  • Anyone that is struggling with an addiction to
drugs or alcohol will benefit by going to Best

suffered from addiction know how hard it can be
to overcome it alone, and the healing environment
of rehabilitation offers the support needed to
    make a successful recovery.
  • Rehab includes individualized treatment plans to
help patients identify and overcome the
underlying issues that started their addiction.
