Types Of poultry

Introduction
  • The poultry industry is one of the
    fastest-growing divisions of the agricultural
    sector in India.
  • The poultry industry in India has undergone a
paradigm shift in its framework and operation.
  • A significant feature has been its
transformation from a simple backyard activity
into a large-scale industry within four decades.

3
  • This shift has involved considerable investments
in breeding, hatching of eggs, rearing poultry
    birds, and processing.
  • The industry has grown primarily due to the
increase in the interest of private enterprises,
    minimal government intervention, genetic
    capabilities of poultry, etc.

4
Types Of Poultry Industry Are
  • Large Scale
  • Medium Scale
  • Small Scale

5
Large Scale
  • Large scale poultry farming requires huge
    investment.
  • Several factors contribute to the segmentation of
    the poultry industry.
  • Are some of the components that classify the
industry into small scale, mid-scale, and large
    scale.
  • Countries such as the US, China, Russia, and
South Asian countries like India are regions
where large-scale poultry industries are seen
    widely.

6
Large Scale
7
Large Scale
  • The largest poultry population is found in Andhra
Pradesh in the country. This is followed by
states such as Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, West
Bengal, Karnataka, Bihar, Orissa, Kerala, Assam,
    Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab.
  • The large-scale poultry industry is also found to
flourish in urban areas like Mumbai, Pune,
    Nagpur, Kolkata, Delhi, Chandigarh, Bangalore,
    Chennai, Hyderabad, Shimla, Ajmer, etc.
  • There is a considerable difference in per capita
consumption between rural areas and urban areas.
In rural areas, the per capita consumption of
eggs is only 7.7 per annum in comparison to 17.8
per annum in the urban areas.

8
Medium Scale
9
Medium Scale
  • The poultry industry is the most commercialized
area of the agriculture sector of the country.
  • The medium-scale poultry industry falls between
the large-scale poultry industry and the
    family-based or small-scale poultry industry.
  • The medium-scale poultry industry has witnessed
favorable growth in the last decade.
  • Increasing privatization has managed to bring
more investments and boost the scale at which
    poultry farming is carried out.

10
Small Scale
11
Small Scale
  • Small poultry farming is a traditional practice
    in rural India.
  • The rural population constitutes more than fifty
    percent of the country.
  • This mainly involves farmers and laborers.
Animal husbandry is a common occupation that
caters to the baseline of employment in rural
    India.
  • It is reared by about 90 percent of rural
    livestock householders.
  • The enormous popularity of poultry farming is
due to the high return on investment capability
    of the occupation.
