Understand the types of cough

Description:

Coughing is the body's natural way of getting rid of any irritants present in the throat or lungs. When our airways or throat is irritated, our nervous system sends a signal to our brain. The response of our brain is to tell the muscles of the abdomen and chest to contract and expel out a burst of air. It goes away on its own and if not, cough remedies can be used to treat mild or severe coughs. – PowerPoint PPT presentation

1
Understand the types of cough
  • Introduction
  • Coughing is the body's natural way of getting rid
of any irritants present in the throat or lungs.
When our airways or throat is irritated, our
nervous system sends a signal to our brain. The
response of our brain is to tell the muscles of
the abdomen and chest to contract and expel out a
burst of air. It goes away on its own and if not,
cough remedies can be used to treat mild or
    severe coughs.

2
  • Paroxysmal cough
  • Paroxysmal cough is the type of cough in which
the person gets intermittent attacks of violent
and uncontrollable coughing. Paroxysmal cough is
    typically painful and people encounter
    difficulties in breathing and exhaustion.
Whooping cough - a bacterial infection where a
person gets violent coughing fits - frequently
    causes paroxysmal coughs.

  • Wet Cough
  • Also known as productive cough, wet cough is the
type of cough that brings up mucus. Common causes
behind wet cough can be flu or cold, accompanied
by other symptoms like fatigue, post-nasal drip
or runny nose. Wet coughs push mucus out of our
respiratory systems such as lungs, airways, nose
    and throat.

4
  • Dry cough
  • A dry cough is the type of cough that doesnt
bring up any mucus. It feels like a tickle at the
back of your throat, triggering a cough. Dry
coughs stay for a long time and are difficult to
take care of. The reason behind dry cough is lack
of excess mucus to cough when theres irritation
or inflammation in the respiratory tract, for
which dry cough treatment is needed.

5
  • Croup cough
  • Affecting children of and under the age of 5,
croup cough is a viral infection that causes the
upper airways to become swollen and irritated. It
typically happens in children because young
children have narrow airways, and when airways
are swollen, narrowing the airways more, it poses
    difficulty in breathing for them.
