QUESTIONS THAT STUDENTS GENERALLY ASK ABOUT
STUDIENKOLLEG
3
Is it recommended to do a Foundation year or
Studienkolleg at a public university or private
university in Germany?
  • Studienkolleg is a foundation course for
international students who wish to pursue their
bachelor from Germany . Germany follows 13yrs of
education system and to compensate that one year,
students are required to join the relevant
    studienkolleg.
  • There are two bodies that runs the Studienkolleg
one is under state public funded universities and
the other is Private universities. For pursing a
Studienkolleg at public university one should be
fluent in German at least till B2 level and apart
from this one should take an entrance test ,known
    as Aufnahmeprofung. Each Studienkolleg demands
    different requirements.
  • In public Studienkolleg, one doesn't need to pay
any tuition fee while on the other hand
Studienkolleg at private universities comes with
    tuition fee.

4
What is the difference between 6 months of
Studienkolleg and 12 months of Studienkolleg?
  • Here your question is a bit vague as you haven't
mentioned which type of Studienkolleg are you
talking about. A studienkolleg from a private
university is for 6 months and from a public
university if is for 12 months.
  • At most universities studienkolleg lasts for 2
semesters. Sometimes you can get admission to an
assessment exam after the first semester of a
university preparatory course. This depends on
your grades in the first semester. I would
suggest that you should only go for public
    universities. Few of the universitys
------complete foundation course within an year
    for example Wildau university (https//en.th-wilda
u.de/). I would suggest that if this is the case
then you can go for it, but this is only possible
when you do not have German language skills.

5
How difficult is Studienkollg?
  • Studienkolleg is a foundation course for
international students who wish to pursue their
bachelor from Germany. Germany follows 13yrs of
education system and to compensate that one year,
students are required to join the relevant
    studienkolleg.
  • If we talk about difficulty level of
Studienkolleg, it depends on student to student
as some students are good at German and the
medium of instruction at Studienkolleg is German.
Frankly speaking this course is not difficult
but sometimes it becomes challenging for students
who lacks German language skills. To make sure
your have already achieved this skill, the
Studienkollegs require you to pass the DSH exam.
  • Typically, Universities provide 5 types of
    Studienkolleg
  • 1.M-STK For students wishing to study in
    Medical, Biological or Pharmaceutical degree
    program.
  • 2.T-STK For students who wish to study
    Mathematics, Science (except biology) or
    Engineering programs.
  • 3.W-STK For students who want to study
Economics, Business Studies or Social Science
    oriented programs.
  • 4. G-STK For students who want to study Arts
and Humanities, Sociology, Culture or German
    Studies.
  • 5. S-STK For students who wants to study
languages (other than German) in Germany.

6
What does studying at a Studienkolleg consist of?
  • Here your question is a bit vague as you haven't
mentioned which type of Studienkolleg are you
talking about. Studienkolleg is a foundation
course for international students who wish to
pursue their bachelor from Germany. Germany
follows 13yrs of education system and to
compensate that one year, students are required
    to join the relevant studienkolleg.
  • Typically, Universities provide 5 types of
    Studienkolleg and each Studienkolleg demands
    different requirements. At most universities
studienkolleg lasts for 2 semesters. Students at
Studienkolleg have to pass two major exams, one
is entrance test and the other one is final
assessment. Sometimes you can get admission to an
assessment exam after the first semester of a
university preparatory course. This depends on
your grades in the first semester. I would
suggest that you should only go for public
    universities.

7
Are Studienkolleg independent for each University?
  • There are two bodies that runs the Studienkolleg
one is under state public funded universities and
the other is Private universities. For pursing a
Studienkolleg at public university one should be
fluent in German atleast till B2 level and apart
from this one should take an entrance test, known
    as Aufnahmeprofung. Each Studienkolleg demands
    different requirements.
  • Yes, the Studienkollegs are independent for each
university, only there are a few universities
that combine the Studienkollege. For example, the
    Nordhausen University (https//www.hs-nordhausen.d
    e/en/) combines 2-3 Studienkollege. Usually
    Studienkollegen are conducted independently and
it would depend on the course you are opting for
    in the university.

8
At what universities one can study without
Studienkolleg?
  • Studienkolleg plays a very important role in
Bachelor from Germany. Germany offers both
English and German taught programmes for masters
but in the case of Bachelor programmes most of
the universities provide Bachelor programmes only
in German. Whether you attend studienkolleg or
not, in any case you have to take the final
assessment that is known as FSP.
  • Germany follows 13yrs of education system and to
bridge that one-year gap, students are required
to join the relevant studienkolleg with their
streams. You can only skip the studienkolleg in
case you have already studied in Indian
university for a year with required German
    language skills.

9
How can one skip the Studienkolleg to enroll in a
German University?
  • Studienkolleg is a foundation course for
international students who wish to pursue their
bachelor from Germany. Germany follows 13yrs of
education system and to bridge that one year gap,
students are required to join the relevant
studienkolleg. If you dont want to do a
Studienkolleg then there are two option with you.
Either you can get an extra year of education
while doing your bachelors or you can complete
    German language till c1 level.

10
What are the requirements of particular
Studienkolleg?
  • There are different kind of Studeinkolleg in
Germany. The M-Stk is for courses including
medicine and it requires core subjects like
    Biology, Physics and Chemistry. After
successfully completing TUM, one can study
    courses such Applied Biomedical sciences,
    Biophysics, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Molecular
    biology, Medicine technology, science of
nutrition and many more similar courses.
  • After completing studienkollege which is also
called as M-studienkollege for aspiring students
for medical studies, they need to appear for FSP
exam. The result of FSP exam is a cumulative
score of 12th Marks and your performance in FSP
exam which is evaluated in German grading system.
