2
What is an AED Defibrillator?
  • AED is an Automated External Defibrillator that
is used on a person during cardiac arrest.
  • It is very easy to use, a medical device that can
analyze the heart's rhythm and deliver an
electric shock, or defibrillation, to help the
    heart re-establish an effective rhythm.

3
What is Chain of Survival ?
  • CPR is a series of actions that when performed
in sequence, will give a person having a heart
attack the greatest chance of survival.
  • The first link in the chain is to the immediate
    call of the emergency response.
  • The next link is to perform early CPR, with
weight on chest compressions until a
    defibrillator becomes available.
  • The next link involves medications, using special
    breathing devices and providing defibrillation
    shocks if needed.

4
Traditional Use of Defibrillation
  • Manual defibrillation is the traditional form of
defibrillation performed by health care, is a
    complex skill.
  • As they become portable, these systems started
    using outside hospitals.
  • The defibrillator was transported to the victim
rather than transporting the victim to a
    defibrillator.

5
When to Use an AED Defibrillator?
  • The device is used to help people having a sudden
    cardiac arrest.
  • Sticky pads with sensors, called electrodes, are
attached to the chest of cardiac arrest
    casualty.
  • The electrodes send information about the
person's heart rhythm to a computer in the AED.

6
How to Use an AED Defibrillator?
  • Power On the AED.
  • Attach the electrodes pads.
  • Analyze the rhythm.
  • Clear the victim and press the SHOCK button.
