Two species of sea turtle nest in Seychelles the
hawksbill turtle and the green turtle.
Hawksbill turtles have been known to come ashore
and nest during the day, while green turtles nest
almost exclusively at night.

The best time of year to spot hawksbill turtles
nesting is from October to April.

One hundred and fifty thousand giant tortoises
live on Aldabra island, the world's largest atoll
(22 miles long and 8 miles wide) and a Unesco
world reserve since 1982.

Seychelles is home to the world's heaviest land
tortoise (in the wild) that lives on Bird Island
and goes by the name of Esmeralda.

Weighing in at 363 kilos, it is believed to be
approximately 170 years, though no one is sure as
it was found fully grown.
