1
Eating Disorder In-Patient and Out-Patient
Service Provides
2
Eating Disorder
  • Eating disorders are characterised by
an abnormal attitude towards food that causes
someone to change their eating habits and
    behaviour.
  • A person with an eating disorder
focuses excessively on weight and shape, leading
them to make unhealthy choices about food with
    damaging results to their health.

3
  • WHY ARE EATING DISORDERS DANGEROUS?

4
  • Eating disorders can do a lot of damage to your
    health. Eating disorders cause significant
difficulties for those affected and their
families. This includes social and relationship
    difficulties, mood difficulties such as
depression and anxiety. Eating disorders also
impact an individuals physical health, including
bone health, energy levels, menstruation and
internal organs such as the heart.

5
TYPE Of EATING DISORDERS
6
Anorexia Nervosa
  • Anorexia is diagnosed in people whose eating
    difficulties involve an extremely restricted
energy intake, whose weight is below 85 of what
is expected for their height and age, and whose
self-evaluation is heavily influenced by how they
feel about their shape and weight.

7
Binge Eating Disorder (BED)
  • Binge Eating Disorder (BED) is commonly known by
    compulsive overeating or consuming abnormal
amounts of food while feeling unable to stop and
a loss of control. Men and women suffering from
BED struggle with emotions of disgust and guilt
and often have a related co-morbidity, such as
    depression or anxiety.

8
Bulimia
  • Bulimia Nervosa , commonly called as bulimia.
Bulimia is a serious mental illness. It can
affect anyone of any age ,gender or background.
People with bulimia are caught in a cycle of
eating large quantities of food (called
bingeing), and then trying to compensate for that
overeating by vomiting, taking laxatives or
    diuretics, fasting, or exercising excessively
    (called purging).

9
Selective Eating Disorder (SED)
  •  Selective eating comes under the umbrella of
    Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder
(ARFID). More than 50 of eating disorders fall
    below the threshold for diagnosis
as Anorexia or Bulimia or Binge Eating
Disorder and fall into this spectrum of
diagnoses. It is far more than just being a fussy
eater people with ARFID may have a phobia about
certain foods, a very restricted diet, sensory
aversions to certain tastes, textures or even
    swallowing.
