Title: Why You Should Consider Installing a Fire Alarm System in Your Home
1Why You Should Consider Installing a Fire Alarm
System in Your Home
2- Your home is the single largest investment that
you are likely to ever make, and its occupants
are priceless. By law, existing and newly
constructed single-family dwellings are required
to have functioning smoke detectors. However, in
a strata building or apartment building, more
extensive fire protection is required, including
a fire alarm system. While the importance of an
early warning detector can not be understated -
it can quite literally mean the difference
between life or death, especially for fires
occurring while occupants are asleep - a fire
alarm system is taking this early warning several
step further, ensuring the protection of the
building and occupants. So, what exactly is the
difference between a smoke detector and a fire
alarm system in Vancouver and why is a fire alarm
system so important?
3Smoke Detectors
Battery operated or hardwired smoke detectors are
the most common type of alarm installed in single
dwelling residential homes. There are three types
of smoke detectors, ionization smoke alarms
detect particles of smoke in the air triggering
an alarm. These types of alarms can often be set
off by kitchen smoke coming from burnt food or
other non fire related smoke. Photoelectric
alarms use positioned light sources to detect the
presence of smoke and are less likely to be
triggers by kitchen mishaps. Dual sensor alarms
are a combination of both ionization and
photoelectric detectors, some models require both
sensors to be triggered before an alarm will
sound, helping to reduce the number of false
alarms produced.
4Fire Alarm System
A fie alarm system in Vancouver includes the same
features as a traditional smoke detector, however
a fire alarm system will include many additional
safety features. A fire alarm system comprises
several elements, including a detection devices
such as heat sensors, ionization and
photoelectric detectors. Unlike battery operated
alarms, these alarms are hardwired into the
building, eliminating the need to constantly
check to ensure that detectors have functioning
batteries, and in the event of a power outage an
emergency battery system which will activate. The
building will also be equipped with a fire alarm
panel which is connected to a central monitoring
company who, in the event of a fire, will contact
the fire department. If high heat from a fire is
detected, a fire alarm system will activate
localized sprinklers to attempt to suppress the
fire in the precious minutes before the fire
department arrives. And, rather than only
sounding the alarm in the immediate vicinity of
the fire, a fire alarm system will sound the
warning in the entire building, ensuring that all
occupants can escape danger.
