Title: Cutting Polycarbonate Sheets The Right Way - Tuflite polymers

1
Polycarbonate roofing sheets are one of the best
choices you can make if you are looking to build
a transparent or semi-transparent structure where
you want a certain amount of light to pass
through and come indoors. A variety of structures
can be built with polycarbonates, including
greenhouses, carports, patios, swimming pool
enclosures, skywalks, stadium roofings,
pergolas, and more. In fact, polycarbonate can
also be used for indoor applications like
windows, skylights, indoor partitions, etc.
Moreover, the material can also be used in a
variety of other applications like eyewear,
computer discs, smartphone covers, riot shields,
bulletproof windows, police gear, and a lot more!
With all these applications, polycarbonate
roofing sheets have become one of the most
popular materials for architects, interior
designers, and other manufacturers as well. If
you are one who belongs to such a profession,
and if you are looking to use polycarbonate for
your application, you have made a great choice.
Some applications require small pieces of
polycarbonates, while others need large pieces.
In any case, you will need to have the
polycarbonate cut perfectly to the required size.
You may either have your polycarbonate roofing
sheets cut to the size required from the
manufacturer or supplier itself, or you may do
it on your own too, as polycarbonates are
extremely easy and safe to cut, drill, and work
with. So, there should be no hassle. This is the
reason why DIYers also love polycarbonate. So,
as you can see, polycarbonate is the preferred
material among both architects and
2
DIYers! In this blog, we will let you know how
you can easily cut the polycarbonate sheet
on your own. Take a look.
  • The equipment you will need
  • The right dimensions
  • Tape measure
  • Straight edge
  • Sharp-toothed handsaw, jigsaw, circular saw, or
    scissors
  • Clamps
  • Timber block
  • Pencil
  • Filter tape
  • Safety goggles
  • Safety gloves
  • The method you should use
  • Step 1 The first thing you should have is the
right dimensions. Measure out the size
  • of the polycarbonate sheet you will require, and
use the straight edge to mark out the lines for
the sheet you need to cut.
  • Step 2 Place the sheets flat down on a stable
surface and clamp it down. While polycarbonates
are extremely durable, strong, and impact
resistant, yet we advise you to be safe while
handling and cutting them. This is why we suggest
that you use a timber block to cushion the
    impact of the clamp.
  • Step 3 Now that you are all set, begin cutting.
But first, wear your safety goggles and gloves.
Now, use whatever cutting equipment you have, and
cut over the drawn lines. Polycarbonate wont
crack, splinter, or break, so worry not, and
begin cutting easily. Any shards that are
produced are also non-toxic, so worry not if they
enter your eyes, nose, and mouth. However, we
have still advised you to wear your safety
    goggles and gloves.
  • Step 4 Once cut, firmly tap the sheet so that
any excess debris can be removed.
  • Step 5 Now, peel back the protective film and
    apply the filter tape.

There, you have easily cut your polycarbonate to
the size you want! And, if you dont want
all this hassle, you can always purchase your
polycarbonate roofing sheets from Tuflite
Polymers, where you can just let them know the
dimensions, and they will provide you with the
right sized polycarbonate sheet for your
application.
