Types of astronomy
The field of professional astronomy has split
into two branches 1. observational astronomy- it
is based on acquiring and examining data, using
basic principles of physics.

2. Theoretical astronomy- it is oriented towards
the growth of analytical models to describe
astronomical objects and phenomena.

Importance of astronomy
  • It helps to understand how the universe began and
    when will it end.
  • It allows us to look at the sky with confidence
in what we are actually seeing than just guessing
    about it.

  • It has changed the misconception of how the earth
    looks like.

  • Research scientist Research scientists work in
almost every area of science. They plan and carry
out experiments and investigations in a range of
    areas, including geoscience, medical research,
    meteorology, and pharmacology.

  • Astronomer An astronomer is a scientist who
understands and interprets the Universe beyond
Earth and the Earth within the Universe.

Using observational tools like space and
ground-based observatories, computers, and the
good old paper and pencil, astronomers attempt to
build up a picture, not only of what the Universe
is like but how it was billions of years ago.
