Along with recovering emotionally from your
surrogacy journey, your body will be on the road
to recovery as well. One of the drawbacks to
being pregnant is the potential to gain weight.
We are going to discuss a few ways to deal with
the inevitable weight gain and help that
surrogate weight fall off quickly. This is
especially important if you want to potentially
start another surrogacy journey.

Pump your breast milk regularly
  • Its no secret that breast milk contains
    essentially all the nutrients that babies require
    to maintain their health through the first 6-12
    months of their life
  • However, being a gestational mother, this can be
    a little tricky. What should you do since the
    child will not be staying with you and you are
    unable to feed them?
  • The best way is to get a breast pump and pump
    breast milk as often as a child would eat. We
    recommend every few hours. The reason is you
    will burn around 200 to 500 calories each day by
    pumping your milk.  Pumping will cause the fat in
    your body to be sucked out, which would normally
    contain the nutrients to feed a child. It has
    been reported by many women that pumping has
    helped them lose the baby weight in as little as
    5 weeks.

  • To achieve the best results for weight loss, you
    should pump breast milk consistently and
    regularly. This will keep up the milk supply,
    thereby burning more calories and keeping up the
    weight loss.
  • Another question related to pumping is whether
    women should increase their daily calorie intake
    during this period. Our suggestion is that, if
    you are trying to lose pregnancy weight, you
    should maintain your normal calorie intake. Your
    focus should be on maintaining your normal
    calorie intake.
  • It may be hard to understand why you dont need
    to increase your calorie intake.  When you think
    about it, taking in more calories to compensate
    for calories lost during breastfeeding, may
    increase your chances of gaining weight.  You may
    end up overcompensating, therefore eating more
    than necessary.

Find a yoga class
  • Even though it may seem simple, its totally
    true. Group fitness and yoga classes are an
    excellent way for a gestational carrier to lose
    her surrogacy weight.
  • Yoga can also help you deal with the emotions
    youre feeling after your surrogacy journey, and
    help your body heal.
  • Since you have just given birth and might be a
    little busy, yoga and instructed classes can be a
    great alternative to help you lose weight.   You
    might not have the time or energy to go to the
    gym and workout according to your normal
    schedule. You might need an instructor to take
    the burden off your shoulders so you can have a
    great workout.

Eat properly
  • Its a given that you wont lose weight without
    eating. Not to mention while being a surrogate,
    youll be under a lot of emotional stress. There
    will be hormones running through your body which
    is not going to help you lose weight.
  • If you want to get back to your pre-pregnancy
    weight, going right for the donuts that you were
    craving throughout your pregnancy will slow the
    process down. You may find that donuts and other
    sweets will not help you along your journey. If
    you maintain a healthy diet that is rich in
    protein and have properly portioned meals while
    you are pregnant then it should be much easier to
    lose weight after the birth of the child.

  • You can fill your diet with protein and nutrient
    rich foods such as the following
  • Spinach
  • Avocados
  • Assorted blackberries and blueberries
  • Eggs/Egg whites
  • Bell peppers and onions
  • Protein filled meats such as chicken and fish
  • Protein filled grains such as quinoa

Schedule a check-up with your doctor
