Visual Artist, D. Lammie-Hanson Celebrates 25
years of Essence Fest with 25 Celebrity Portraits
Rendered in Pure Silver in New Orleans
1888PressRelease - Autodidactic Visual Artist, D.
Lammie-Hanson, Creates 25 Celebrity Portraits
with the 500 year old technique, Silverpoint to
Celebrate Essence Festival's Silver Anniversary
in New Orleans. New Orleans, LA - Visual artist
D. Lammie-Hanson has created a new series that
the world has never seen before. Her stunning new
silverpoint series "Dared to Be... A Silverpoint
Soulful Experience" will be unveiled on Friday
July 5th, 2019 at the Salon Artist in Residence _at_
Canal Place/the Arts Council of New Orleans, 333
Canal St. 2nd Flr. New Orleans, LA 70130. This
solo art show is a celebration of the 25th
anniversary of the Essence Music Festival. The
opening reception starts at 6 pm. The "Dared to
Be" series in which Lammie-Hanson created
specifically for the 25th anniversary of Essence
Festival in New Orleans, will be unveiled in New
Orleans during Essence Fest. weekend. This
event will have three components. First
component is the artwork. The second one is
that guests are invited to wear their best white
attire to reflect onto the 500 year old
Silverpoint technique that is executed and
displayed as a collection of Black contemporary
silverpoint portraits. The third component
requests that the guest video tap themselves
walking around each piece of art and watching the
portraits respond to their presence.

This is called "the Silverpoint Soulful
Experience." The guests will be interacting with
the silverpoint likenesses of Alicia Keyes,
Aretha Franklin, Prince, Diana Ross, Mary J
Blige, Janet Jackson, Missy Elliott to name a
few. Lammie-Hanson, who has a huge admiration
of Da Vinci and his techniques and skills, loved
the idea of dark skin represented in precious
metals. She creates each piece with 3 silver
(.999) wires of different gauges, homemade
grounds in black acrylic for the silver and a
reflective light. When she discovered that 2019
was the 25th anniversary of Essence Fest, she
felt that it was the perfect opportunity to
create a body of work of music icons who inspire
people because they "Dared To Be...". "There is
only one Silver Anniversary, I am a Woman of
Color, I create in Silver and I live in New
Orleans. It is a no brainer!", says D.
Lammie-Hanson. In truth, this is a one of a kind
art show. All of the portraits will be
conceptually designed and executed in pure
silver. Lammie-Hanson is an autodidactic
American artist who is known for her contemporary
expressionistic portrait paintings. She is one of
a handful visual artists of color as well as a
female artist of color who draws with precious
metals. Her emphasis is primarily on the psyche
of the silenced individual. Lammie-Hansons
iconic "One Eye Tulips" series is a vivid
expression of this idea. Her very moving series
addressing colorism called "The Beauty Beyond the
Brown Paper Bag Test" celebrates the beauty of
dark skinned people who have been denied
privileges in the Black community based on their
deep dark melanin. As a professional artist,
Lammie-Hanson has exhibited in Geneva,
Switzerland, Berlin, Atlanta, New Orleans, and
Chicago. She held the position of Artist of the
Year for Brooklyn Academy of Music's BAM
DanceAfrica 2007 in Brooklyn. She was the 2017
New Orleans regional winner of the Bombay
Sapphire Artisans Series. She has self-published
two books based on her the first 20 years of her
art career called "The Painting the Invdiual
Psyche" and "The World of the One Eyed Tulips".
Both available on Amazon.com In New Orleans,
Lammie-Hanson has shown with the LeMieux
Galleries, Jazz and Heritage Foundation Gallery,
the Contemporary Arts Center, the Arts Council of
New Orleans, Ashe Cultural Arts Center, the
George and Leah McKenna Museum of African
American Art, Ogden Museum of Southern Art.

In Alabama she has shown at the GW Carver Museum
in Dothan, AL and the Wiregrass Museum of Art in
Wiregrass, AL, In Chicago Gallery Guichard,
Chicago, IL. The "Dared to Be... A Silverpoint
