1. Abbey Falls
  • Popularly known as Abbi Falls, the majestic
    cascade scales down a cliff from a height of 70
    feet and is surely a sight to behold. Nestled
    amidst lush greenery which can be widely seen in
    the sceneries of Western Ghats, the peaceful
    waterfall lures thousands of nature lovers,
    adventure enthusiasts, wanderers and photography
    fanatics across the year, and is one of the most
    famous tourist attractions in and around Coorg.
    For adventure seekers, the huge mountain and its
    surrounding dense forests present an excellent
    opportunity to explore and trek on its meandering
    ways. Birds and monkeys can be found lingering
    around the falls one can feed them and enjoy
    their company, feeling close to nature and
    wildlife. Remember to carry your cameras as the
    place is a great spot for shutterbugs to capture
    hues of colors of nature and a great view of the

2. Namdroling Monastery

  • Spread over a sprawling area of 80 square feet, a
    visit to this place situated in Bylakuppe, gives
    a Tibetan touch to your memorable holiday in
    Coorg, and holds some magnificent artworks of
    Tibetan architecture that can be seen in the
    elaborately decorated temple tower and ornate
    outer walls, intricately adorned with beautiful
    murals. Also known as the Golden Temple, the
    place is believed to be the largest teaching
    centre of the school of Tibetan Buddhism known as
    Nyingmapa and the second largest Buddhism
    settlement in India. In addition to being home to
    about 5,000 monks of the Sangha community, the
    holy place houses many auxiliary structures like
    educational institutions and a hospital.

    gigantic 40 feet high golden statues of Guru
    Padmasambhava, Buddha Sakyamuni and Amityaus,
    surrounded by beautiful paintings depicting
    various aspects of Tibetan Buddhist mythology.

  • The place has a history of being one of the
    favorite hangout places of the kings of Kodagu
    who visited the place along with their queens, to
    witness its unsurpassable scenic beauty and
    panoramic vistas amidst a pleasant climate.
    Located in Madikeri district of Coorg, Rajas
    Seat is one of the top tourist attractions here,
    and houses a charming garden adorned with an
    array of seasonal bright colored flowers, musical
    fountains and a concrete arc overlooking the
    green hills looming with misty clouds.
  • Rajas Seat has an unerring location overseeing
    the rolling mountains and valleys that lie to the
    West and a horizon doused in all shades of blue
    and orange. It is a fantastic spot to watch the
    majestic sunrise or the fiery sunset or indulge

4. Talacauvery

  • Believed to be the source of River Kaveri,
    cradled on the laps of Brahmagiri hills in Kodagu
    district, this place is located at 1,276 meters
    above sea level and is home to important sites of
    culture and heritage. The Talacauvery temples are
    amongst the best places to see in Coorg. Kodavas
    rulers erected a tank atop which is now
    considered as the origin of River Kaveri, and
    taking a holy dip in the magical waters of the
    river on special occasions is considered
    sacrosanct and is said to assist you in healing
    yourself from mental and physical afflictions. To
    get to the temple, one has to climb a series of
    407 steps, while soaking in the pure and serene
    air of the natural surroundings.
  • Inside the temple complex, Bhagandeshwara Kshetra
    carries a host of temples dedicated to
    Bhagandeshwara, Subramanya, Mahavishnu and
    Ganapati, which are thronged by hundreds of
    devotees who also come to take a holy dip in the
    pious water. The grand festival of Tulasankaramma
    is celebrated in the town with grand vigor and
    pomp, usually in the month of October. During
    this time, there is a sudden gush of water in the
    Brahma Kundike, the tank from where spring of
    River Kaveri emerges, and thousands of pilgrims
    swarm the place to take a holy dip into the water
    and achieve absolute bliss.

5. Dubare Elephant Camp
  • One of the fun things to do in Coorg is getting
    close to Asian elephants at the Dubare Elephant
    Camp. Once a training site for elephants of the
    famous Dasara procession in Mysore, the camp
    houses over 150 of these enchanting adorable
    creatures and is a great chance to get to watch
    the elephants being given a bath, fed and trained
    by Mahouts. In addition, you can embark on a
    coracle ride on the River Kaveri and spot a
    crocodile, gaur, the wild dog and sloth bear,
    enjoy the incredible biodiversity of Coorg and
    have the opportunity of viewing birds such as
    peacocks, partridges, kingfishers, and
    woodpeckers. The surrounding greenery is also
    home to bison, spotted deers, tigers, wild dogs

6. Cauvery Nisargadhama
  • A picturesque and naturally blessed island
    surrounded by the Kaveri river water, Cauvery
    Nisargadhamais, offers several recreational

    spend some relaxing time with family and friends.
    The scenic beauty of this 64- acre island is
    enhanced by the exquisite variety of fauna that
    engulfs the thick bamboo groves, sandalwood and
    teak trees. The sight of the deers roaming around
    or galloping in leaps, adds to the beauty of this
    lovely place. Bylakuppe Tibetan Settlement which
    is another incredible place to hit while in
    Coorg, is very close to Nisargadhama island.

7. Iruppu Falls
  • The sparkling water of Iruppu Falls cascading
    from a height of 51 meters along the Brahmagiri
    mountain range makes for one of the most
    beautiful tourist attractions and adventurous
    picnic spot in Coorg. The enormous fall is also
    religiously significant and enjoying a refreshing
    bath beneath it, are few of the activities to be
    dwelled on your visit here. Also known as the
    Lakshmana Tirtha Falls, the misty breeze
    surrounding the falls,  the tranquility of the
    place and lush evergreen woods of the Western
    Ghats leading from these falls to the Brahmagiri
    Peak, makes it a breathtaking sight to behold.
  • Iruppu Falls is also considered a revered place
    by locals. Legend has it that when Lord Rama and
    his brother Lakshmana were passing along the
    Bhramagiri range while looking for Sita, who had
    been kidnapped, Rama asked his younger brother to
    fetch him some water to drink. On his brothers
    request, Lakshmana looked around for a source of
    water, but when he could not find any, he shot an
    arrow penetrating into the Brahmagiri hills,
    which spilt out the clean and pure stream of the
    river which later came to be known as Lakshmana
    Tirtha.
